Left Queenstown on Monday to drive towards Lake Tekapo. Didnt really want to leave as love Queenstown, would def like to have stayed there longer!
Anyway! Headed to Lake Tekapo which again is another glacier lake and of course stunning! Arrived about 1pm so decided to do a horse trek around the lake which was so much fun! Havent been on a horse since Costa Rica so legs hurt quite a bit the next day!
The hostel we stayed at is right on the lake so our bus driver announced that we should have a group BBQ which was fab! So much veggie food too thank goodness as we dont normally get a thing! Spent the evening drinking in our hostel room (too many bugs outside!) before getting up to head to Christchurch!
Not a fan of Christchurch must admit!! Nothing is open as there was a major earthquake here last year and the buildings are very damaged still. Hostel was ok but not fab and generally there was nothing to do! Pleased I was only spending one night!
Kaikoura! Definitely another top place on my list!! Arrived here on Thursday lunchtime and headed straight off to
do a whale watch whilst everyone else went fishing! Love, love love it!!! Saw 3 killer whales on our way out before seeing 6-7 Giant Sperm whales, who are massive!! As we were heading in a pod of 20 killer whales decided to play with our boat! so sweet! had a calf with them too and literally we at the edge of the boat!! Amazing!
Spent Friday chilling out around the pool in our hostel as a very hot day before having a few drinks as we are starting to lose people now as coming towards the end of the tour 😞
Pete and I got up very early this morning (we never have time to sleep on this tour!!) before heading out to go dolphin swimming!!! OMG!!!! Arrived at the shop to get checked in and got kitted out in our wetsuits!! Very sexy! Unfortunately we didnt get a pic but they make you look so slim!! Corsets!
Watched a video then got taken to our boat, we had 7 of us on ours and the other boat had loads so thank god we werent on that boat!
Anyway, storm was threatening so we
the most awful journey out there, waves were huge and was feeling very sick! Came across a pod of about 20 dolphins so climbed in and off we went! Was AMAZING!!!! you had to make loads of noises under water to get their interest so was singing dolphin noises! When three came over I started to swim in circles and they copied!! heaven!! Was so much fun! you get normally 5 swims with them but the weather was turning and the current was really bad so we got called in, we had to be rescued though as none of us could get in past the swell!!
Went further off shore to find more dolphins for pics and came across 150-200 dolphins, all jumping and flipping and had calves too!
Only problem was, busy watching the shore line and dolphins as feeling rather ill and the next thing Im being sick in a bucket on board, (infront of the sexy tour guide! Classy!!) He was lovely though but was pleased when he said time to go!!
Leaving Kaikoura tomorrow as back to Wellington then heading up to Auckland. Am now heading to Oz earlier so I can meet
the brother!!
