Resting on the surface.
I left the gang behind and got a flight down to Christchurch on the south island. I booked myself on a bus tour around the outside of the island, stopping at various places along the way and takes between 10 and 14 days depending on if you want to stay at places a little longer.

The first place is Kaikoura which we stayed in for 1 night. While I was here I managed to get on a boat and go whale watching. It was absolutely fanatstic, we saw 2 huge Sperm whales resting on the surface before diving again. The things staye under for about an hour go down to 1.5Km, apparently they can stay down longer and go deeper but that's how deep it is here. After seeing them we found a pod of about 500 Dusky dolphins which again was amazing seeing them jump out of the water and doing tricks.

The town itself is pretty sleepy and there's not much else to do, so it's back on the bus tomorrow and on to the next destination.
