Day 7- Wednesday 25th April

6am...woken up by a very loud brass/wind band(bagpipes an' all!) ...not best pleased but respect! Anzac day!(war rememberance)

We drove down south along the east southern scenic route. First stop the moeraki boulders. They were quite cool but not amazing, the photos make them seem amazing. Sar says they were 'a nice bit of geology!' The seaweed in NZ is huage!!!!!!! Next stop Shag Point! We appeared to be following the same graffitied campervan! There were literally of seals strewn over the rocks, slepping and having a scratch. The younger pups were playing and annoying the older ones! They were quite cool, but stank of fish!! The weather became alot colder and cloudy!

We drove on to Dunedin with the plan of staying overnight and taking a half day trip on the Taeri Gorge Railway! Unfortunately, we missed this by half an hour! We probably wouldnt have seen a lot anyway as the weather was bad. Town was very quiet, most things closed because of Anzac day(national holiday!) Decided to drive round the Otago Peninsula. VERY WINDY ROAD!!!! Stopped at a backpackers hostel very cheekily to enquire about hostels at the Caitlins, 2hr drive south. Backtracked about 20mins to find the road for Larnach 'Castle'! The building was quite cool, very scottish in building but the added new zealand style of iron verandas. Weather very misty, gardens pretty but not huge. Couldn't see view, probably would have been spectacular if we could!

Change of plans from staying in Dunedin overnight. Instead drove on down to Caitlins. Drive very misty and bad conditions. Backpackers hostel was very quaint. Small bungalow converted to hostel.. Shared it with an australian couple- very friendly. Had the place to ourselves most of the night as they went out for tea. Watched a bit of tv in the lounge with a coal fire!! Cozy! We even had hot water bottles in our 'Cat Room' to keep us warm!
