at the flower show We woke up pretty late for us, 10am, had breakfast then headed out for a wander.
We walked right down the river from our hostel into the Botanical Gardens and Hagely Park, pretty much the centre of town, a wee bit behind the main shopping bit.
It's not great weather, not bad, just a bit breezy, as usual I've got my shorts on but had to put a jumper on, it keeps raining in bits too.
We have a walk through the park, it's real nice and relaxed even though it's a Saturday afternoon, the flower show is on and the town is really excited about this, I don't know if it's for the same reason as Dundee gets excited when the flower show is at Camperdown, i.e. late licence but everyone's happy anyway.
There's loads of displays everywhere and there also seems to be some sort of Chinese New Year celebration even though that was last week.
We've been taking it really easy here, nice relaxing time, our hostel is great, real quite even though it's full and loads of areas to chill and read, there isn't a TV and as for as we've seen

outside the Cathedral that's a good thing, more than half of the places we've stayed haven't had a TV and they have defo been the best, a relaxing life without TV, it's all so simple and good, I'm even getting over the football, still checking the BBC for gossip and that but not bothered if I miss a match, i.e. the Manchester Derby is on about 2am tomorrow and I've not even sussed out anywhere to watch it.
Our time in New Zealand is nearly over, we only have 6 sleeps left and we'll really miss here, we've had an amazing time and they've all been catalogued here, we've still got a few things left like whale watching of the coast of Kaikoura, that should be awsome.
The moving on is exciting though, we'll be sad to leave but at the same time real excited about Fiji, our next stop in 6 days from now. After a real busy time here we're looking to find a wee beach somewhere and do nothing for a couple of weeks, well I fancy a wee bit of fishing and we both want to go snorkelling on the Coral Coast but nothing like as busy

I like it, don't know what it is but I like it. as we've been here, and there's zero danger I'm driving again for at least a month!
We plan to read some books and plan our Australia trip in great detail while in Fiji, we've been doing much the same over the last couple of days for our Fiji trip here, the Australia trip is huge though, we plan to be there for 6 months and work for three. We've not totally decided a plan yet but as with most of this trip the initial script is to buck the usual backpacker trend and head to the West Coast to spend 4 months, possibly working and living in Perth, it's still not decided yet though but everyone seems to go to Sydney or Melbourne and although we'd like to see these places we'd also like to have original stories and a different perspective on Australia.
With our move to Fiji will come the end of the daily updates on this site I'm afriad, I have enjoyed it but it has also taken up quite a bit of time and money in internet cafe's so we'l have to cut down.
We'll still be adding loads of photo's as and
Bizarre statue in City Centre
to commemorate the Millenium but I've no idea what it is, looks like a waffle cone, mmmmmmmmnnnnn, waffle cones........ when but there won't be the diary situation that's going on just now, for starters in Fiji I don't want to write that we spent the day lazing on the beach, again, everyday, even though it would make you all jelous as hell.
Anyway don't get upset yet as we'll still add the remainder of this week before we leave, included will be the mother of all drives from Picton to Auckland on Thursday, complete with a 04:30 ferry to Wellington!!
Whale watching tomorrow should be unreal, to be honest we've been looking forward to this day for out whole trip, it's real pricey at $125 each but we're on the boat for 4 hours and have a 90% chance of seeing whales, dolphins, seals and a 50% of seeing sharks, Fiona is hoping the latter is an adventurous estimate.
