We headed to Akaroa, which is 50 or so miles away from Christchurch, and stopped along a beach recommended by Liz and Warrick. Instead of sand, the beach had a shore of very round and smooth rocks. Then we stopped by a small art gallery which included some jewelry made out of these rocks. After lunch and a stroll around Akaroa, we headed over to Okines Bay where we kicked off our shoes and waded into the Pacific. On our way back to Christchurch, we took the scenic route which includes steep cliffs, no guard rails, and a ‘two’ lane road over the ridge lines above Akaroa. Back in Christchurch, we went to the local “Fish and Chippy” for a high calorie New Zealand tradition.
