Today we got up and went to the Miyazu Japanese Garden in Nelson, which was very small, but nice. It had small Japanese bridges and stone pathways around to different parts of the garden. There was a yin/yang garden, decorated like the symbol with grass and stones. Also there was a rock garden that we sat at and pondered for awhile.

Then we went to Happy Valley Adventures where we signed up for their 3km Skywire (which they claim is the longest in the world!) Before they were ready for us, we got to go down to the river with some old bread and feed tame river eels! It was crazy. At first there was one, but soon Adam had about 8 or so in one little area eating up his bread. It also attracted a lot of ducks…one who had 2 cute ducklings! When one of the employees came to get us, he asked if Adam had tried petting an eel. Adam hadn't, so he took this opportunity to do it. One tried to bite his finger off, but he managed to escape. We took a van up a really big mountain, where we stopped to look at Mareikura

- the world's oldest Matai tree (about 2,000 years old). When we finally got to the top we could see other people doing the skywire. The skywire holds four people, and luckily there were four of us to make it go faster! We put on their silly, cute, hats to keep our heads warm and our glasses on. It was a lot of fun. We got going to 90 km/h and were really high up above all the trees. Once at the end, it goes backwards to the beginning. It’s slower going back, but it felt a lot faster. The guy let us go again for no charge. It was fun without being very scary.

We had lunch on Rabbit Island (a small island with different walking paths and a beach) and then headed up toward Abel Tasman National Park. We drove to Kaiteriteri where we are staying the night. We have a beach view (it's right across the street) from our back window again. The sun had finally come out in the evening, so we went to the beach for a walk. It was really nice and there were a ton of shells all over the beach. We walked around enjoying the sun and scenery for awhile.

Later, when Adam was trying to look at/fix the small hole in our exhaust, he got stung by a bee! The first time in 30 years. Luckily he didn’t seem to be allergic, so it wasn’t too bad. We had signed up to go kayaking the next day at Abel Tasman, so we went to bed early so that we’d be well rested and able to get up in the morning.
