20th May
The final day of our trip. We spent the morning at the Wai O Tapu "Thermal Wonderland" where the combination of boiling hot water, steam and various minerals have created all sorts of colours in the rocks, pools, lakes and streams. Admittedly it probably looks even more spectacular when the whole place is NOT shrouded in mist but it was still very colourful. And they have the biggest expanse of bubbling mud pools in New Zealand so I got to see them at last – Hooray !
Then it was time to head back to Auckland ready for our flight tomorrow. We drove through Oxford, Cambridge, Hamilton and Bombay (shouldn't that be renamed Mumbai ?) but by-passed Hobbiton this time. To make us feel better about leaving it absolutely poured with rain.
