Leaving Matakohe behind us we set off on the west coast towards the kauri forests. On the way we stopped for lunch at the very scenic Kai Iwi lakes. There are three of them - Lake Kai Iwi, Lake Waikere and Lake Taharoa. We ate on the shores of Lake Taharoa. The water was a beautiful blue and it wasn't too busy - just a few people picnicing and someone waterskiing on the lake. It was a beautiful day but the water was freezing, so we chickened out of a swim!

Rob only just posed for this because as usual he was 'dying of hunger' and wanting his lunch
