cathedral cove
oh, not these caves, coves, islands and beautful beaches againwell, the things are developing now and dzuro hasn't done any particulary stupid things recently. but it might be interesting anyway. so read on.
from the far far north, i was driving the whole day so i've reached coromandel peninsula in the evening. it is east from auckland. thera are beautiful beaches there and "world famous" (??) cathedral cove. see the pics. there is also a hot water beach over there, which means you can dig a hole for yourself and put your bum inside and wait until it's roasted 😊) unfortunately, there were no kayaks to rent 😞(
volcanic rotorua after a couple of days i headed south to Rotorua, famous for its hot springs, mud pools, thermal areas, geyseeres and other bubbling, mud spitting and boiling stuff. i've read in a LP that some people call the city "fart-o-polis" because of some similar charachteristics of the pools, including smell.
anyway, one day is enough to see it all. and it was too touristy for my taste. BUT, Rotorua is famous for something else as well - and that be a mountain bike park. there are about 100 kms of bike trails, from the easiest to
downhill race tracks. there are all single trails with bridges, jumps, drops... fantastic!!! I've been there with Toby who I met in the hostel. no time to take pictures, too much action!! we were wasting ourselves to the very end so the thermal bath was a real relief for the muscles in the evening, heh
tongariro crossing tongariro crossing is considered as the best one day trek on the north island. before doing it, we were waiting for two days in a hostel because it was raining/snowing up there. in that time we became a big group having fun all the time. fortunately, the owners of the hostel also had a very good indoor climbing wall so the rainy days were not that lousy 😊)
but what a nice weather we've got on the third day!!! and there was fresh snow up there!!! dzuro was happy running around as a little kid.
the trek crosses a mountain chain so the starting point is not same as ending point. anyway, we have managed it with combination of two cars. it has costed us 5 bucks per person instead of 35$ asked by tour operators.

Ok, it was included in the fee to see the geyseer. but the japanese tourists went crazy when seing it!! trips from the main path and one of them is mt. Ngaruguhoe (yep, i had to chech internet to get that Nga.. something name). it is an active vulcano a little less than 2300m high and has a symmetrical conical shape - see the pics. it was covered with snow from previous days and everybody has disadvised to climb it. nobody from our group wanted to do it, so I did it on my own (remember - dzuro likes snow 😊) they have done some other side trips so we have met in the afternoon on the trail again.
wellington as usual, i don't like cities. and besides, I've had a terrible hang-over from the previous night. so I have decided to do mountain biking instead of visiting galleries, museums, theatres and other institutions for civilised people. they have a nice MTB park south-west from the city and again the very well maintained single trails for bikers only. perfect!!
I still had to kill some afternoon hours so I've visited the national museum. what a surprise!!! really cool museum, lots of information about volcanos, underwater life, presentations, movies, touch screens, interactive games.... and most surprisingly - the
entrance is free for anyone!!!
tomorrow I have a ferry to the south island. everybody says it's more beautiful than the north one. well, north was not bad either 😊)
