We saw amazing birds at the Zealandia nature preserve outside of Wellington

Zealandia nature persevere outside of Wellington had waterbirds and parrots, as well as song, terrestrial birds

We saw his colorful bird at Zealandia also

Again, in Zealandia the birdlife was abundant

Zealandia - the song of this bird was truly bell-like

Takahē

Took this photo off the internet as we didn't see this flightless bird, although they have some in sanctuaries. As of 2017 there were only 347 left, but work is being done on bringing their numbers back; mostly on small islands off of NZ

First sean in Zealandia, we saw this pigeon through the island

Wattled Crow aka Kōkako

Zealandia has such a great mixture of birds

This is a common bird throughout the island which has many and varied vocalizations, many of them quite loud - first thing we'd hear in the mornings

Sunday dinner with the Mobberley's - Barbara is an extraordinary cook and Sunday dinner was, naturally, one of her best

Rebecca is an accomplished and award-winning dressage rider. She had been competing in Australia when we first arrived in NZ

Tree Ferns

NZ has 200 species of ferns, 30% of which are endemic.

Rare White Kiwi

At the nature preserve outside Masterson the kiwi exhibit is kept 'natural' in that they bring in soil from the preserve daily so the birds can find their own food, naturally. The lighting was bad for photos because these birds are nocturnal and so the light is kept low.

Wairakei Terrace Pools

In Lake Taupo they had one of the best thermal spas we visited. We loved it because of the many pools with different temperature water, but mostly because of the lush setting
