Leaving WellingtonLeaving WellingtonLeaving Wellington

Our ship from the stern
Left Wellington in sunshine although we knew it was "blowing" a bit in the sound. Very strong winds but the ship was stable, albeit it did most of the crossing at a 15 degree list due to the wind on the starbord side (that right hand to you land lubbers). "Captain Sue" stayed below for the 3 hour crossing but she was feeling fine until the 45 minute car journey from the ferry port. Hairpin bends and mountains all the way. She almost cancelled dinner but relented on my behalf at the last minute as we were staying in the mussell capital of the world.

The ferry passage though the Cook sound is reputed to be one of the finest and most scenic crossing in the world and I can see why. Too many photos to post but a small selection attached.

The ship lists in the wind. Not sure if the passengers fell out of the chairs or gave up and went below. They were sitting there earlier.

Queen Charlotte sound is a 1 hour journey through fiord like water.
