So, after the mountain crossing, and delays with the weather etc we decided we should try a new tactic for south island.
We boarded the bus from the national park and headed southwards to wellington, which was about a 5 hour bus ride with a change over in Bull, now bull is a little village where the word bull has to be used on everything, eg consta-bul, (for a police station. collecta-bull (for a antique shop), delecta-bull for a pie shop, you get the idea, but for us, up to now on north island, when looking through the guides and expectations we would use bull-sh@t as a guide for the tourist info and brochure signs..............we get the feeling now that every town is so desperate for tourism that it prints off a load of photo shopped brochures, hacks out a crap walk/hike through the bush and then prints it as "COULD be the best thing in NZ" or the text " In 1861 out on that rock, there was talk of a ship wreck, it was thought to have wool on board" or "To the right used to be a farm on the river bank, but now its gone" or "On
mechanic every day!mechanic every day!mechanic every day!

this day he is tv fixer!
this river in 1965 and old river boat almost sank in a whirlpool, but it didnt and now the whirlpool has gone as well" These my friends are actual quotes from brochures.
We arrived at Wellington, the same time the rugby sevens where on so there was a big party that weekend and everybody was drunk on the streets and in fancy dress....excellent, only problem with that was the fact that our hotel had doubled in price and most of the cafes etc have a 20% surcharge on public holidays.............bummer
we arrived at the hotel thinking we where going to have a bit of flash before we have our new tactic on south island, hahahahahaha how wrong we where, it was from 1922, a little like the hotel on the shinning movie,
the key was held together with sticky tape as well as the elevator, which we only used once as we did not have our climbing gear with us to get out of it if it broke down. i immediately repaired the tv on entry so that we could see the picture....
our room also had a strange metal bath tub in it probably for a midget or some sort of sacrifice bowl.
the best part is we got a free semi warm/stale muffin, for breakfast on one day and nothing on the other days.
while in the city we met up with jo and chris , cooked a meal and they dropped us at the ferry terminal so we could head to picton south island......bon voyage
