North Island Route

This is roughly the route we took in the North Island

Today we leave the north Island. We are currently on the ferry to the South Island. It was an early start and only 1 of the 2 times we'll have to set the alarm clock (2nd will be for our Milford sound cruise).
Yesterday was a great day exploring the city of Wellington. The weather was better but still cloudy. We went to the Te papa (museum) and saw an exhibition on the greenstone. It was very good.

After having a quick sandwich in the campervan (we're getting ready for the grey nomad briggade), we headed for the Cable Car. What we couldn't find for looking the day before, we found straight away. The view from the top is amazing, we can see right over the bay. We made our way slowly back to the city through the botanical gardens. The walk was more pleasurable as it was all down hill....

We did just over 1100 KM's on the North Island. Starting to pick up on some of the local speak - "Bro" and still enjoying the local beer. There are many more Germans in NZ than we expected and hardly any Aussies (that we've come across anyway).

Having a great time and the sun is finally starting to come out. Hopefully it stays that way for the next week and that the Melbourne weather you've had missings the Island completely (but that is most likely wishful thinking.

They are serving sandwiches now in the lounge that we're in (after having a hot breakfast) so must get something to eat (again). Menx is doing ok on the boat today - so far. Luckily it's smooth today.

Hello
Its sounds like a great trip. We are glad you are having a great time and that menx is coping with the crossing OK. It is freezing here. Nick sent a photo of the snow in Kinglake about a foot in places. Snow also in Ballarat, Dandenongs, Flowerdale, and we have had 36mls of rain in the last 23hours-70mls since we got home. Things look a bit trecherous for the Phillip Islan Grand Prix and the Caulfield Cup. We are off to the pictures and out to dinner. Keep having fun Love Mum and Dad

Darren and Menca, Sounds like a great trip. Is the Van easy to get around in? Why are you the only people in the pictures? Were you at the Backbencher Pub for a breaky beer? Cheers, Keith

No it was in the afternoon. The van is really easy to drive. It didn't take long to get used to the manual again either. We have lots of pic's but usually we try and keep the crowds down. Have fun and see you in a couple of weeks
