Hello all,

we are currently in the bustling metropolis of Wellington, capital of New Zealand at the bottom of the North Island.

After the wet day in Franz Josef we told you about, the weather improved. The following day it was a lovely and blue and we went up to the famous glacier. It was some very impressive slow moving ice, the most impressive slow moving ice we had ever seen!

We hopped into the van and drove for a few hours up to Hanmer Springs, where we stayed the night. The next day we went to the famous springs to take the waters. Although we layed around in it rather than drank it, the water was hot (40 degrees in places) and the outside was cold and snowy at times. We splashed out in the evening on a meal out at a restaurant - we were the only diners!

We completed our tour of the South Island by driving up to Picton on the North Coast. A lovely little seaside town. Along the coast we stopped and saw some seals lounging on the rocks.

Yesterday we took the Picton to Wellington ferry across the Cook Straits. It was a little bumpy at times, and Steph turned a little green around the gills.

Today we have explored Wellington, having a look around an excellent museum and been up to the top of town in a cable car. Just blogging before dinner. Hope you are all ok.

We shall update you with the rest of our North Island trip soon

I am just getting ready for my weekend away on my bell ringing course which I have no doubt will be far more exciting than glaziers, hot springs and rain forests without the heat. I dont think I will even bother taking a camera so you will just have to imagine the exciting spectacular inside of churches and dusty ringing chambers!!! Take care LUV MUM
