View of the City from the Observatory lookout in the Botanic Garden
The Wellington Botanic Garden is just up the street from our house. The pictures are from a couple of different visits we’ve made there. It’s very beautiful and quite nice to stroll through on a pretty day. Strolling has a different connotation here in hilly Wellington, of course!

Some facts about the Botanic Garden:

• The original 13 acres were founded in 1843.
• In 1871 an additional 54 acres were granted to the Garden, bringing the total to 67 acres.
• The Garden’s oldest tree is over 200 years old.
• The Lady Norwood Rose Garden blooms from November to May and is named after the wife of a former Wellington Mayor.
• There is a duckpond and a cool playground for the kids.
• The Garden is home to the Carter Observatory, NZ’s national astronomy center (quite a hike to get up there!).
• The final and highest stop of the cable car line is in the Garden, as is the Cable Car Museum.

Enjoy the photos!!

Hi Den and Em, I love the pictures, but I don't see any other people in them. Did you go when everyone was asleep? Love Mom
