'And what did the nice teacher give you today?'
In true Traveler-cum-Explorer fashion, we're still here in Taupo, thoroughly enjoying the chill-out time. We've been BBQ'ing every night and have almost mastered the perfect shish kebab; we've been into town in the afternoons to stock up on provisions, buy lotto scratch cards ($20 down so far), choose a DVD for the evening's entertainment on the Macbook... and other typical Traveler-cum-Explorer pursuits...

We went over to Rotorua again yesterday, had a walk around town, some lunch at The Pig and Whistle (a former red-brick police station built in the 1940's) and Steve took another helicopter lesson. This time, he came away with a hat with 'Astral Helicopters' on the front, and a Pilot's Logbook (Soph, it doesn't have bear shaped buttons on the front that play a tune when you press them). Steve slept in his hat and guarded his Logbook all night.

Helicopters
G'day Jules and Steve, sorry captain Steve !! I was just wondering what the engine oil temperature limits were on your helicopter Steve ? I know on the one i was flying (Bell 206B) the limits were 0 degrees centigrade to 107 degrees centigrade.Maybe you could liaise with your instructor and get back to me. Keep smiling you lucky couple.Wynski x

Hi Wynski!
Usually the Bell 206B is 115 degrees centigrade with a 7% temperature drop over 6000 ft Alt, as the air temperature and density drops above 6000 ft. When this drop occurs, the fuel heater must be engaged or, if type R22B, the carburetor heaters, and a visual kept on transmission fluid temperature. But that's just off the top of my head. Refer to Principles of Flight Vol 1 for further details. BTW, what colour DOES a Smurf go when you strangle it? Nice one mate! Lich :-)

Hello The Wilsons :-)
Hey, Ronnie, this is do or die! Flown over some wonderful lakes, mountains, and countryside, chasing wild deer... and I've not been able to take my eyes off the gauges, so missed it all! Not a simple as just replacing the balsa blades if you go down, although I can get this one to glide. Love to the family. Jools n Stevo
