We have rain! Proper heavy rain, finally.
My first action of the day was to head out for my physio appointment. Arrived and explained what has been going on with my thigh, and, within about 5 minutes, she had worked out that I actually tore my right thigh almost completely about 3 years ago when I initially hurt it. She then did some acupuncture, where she digs needles into the knots and ‘hurty’ points of the leg, along with massage, to get the leg to loosen up a bit. Was extremely bizarre having a needle jabbed into your leg and then have the leg twitch and spasm. She had warned me that it could cause the muscles to ache a bit, and we’d talked about whether to go ahead with the treatment with my racing on Saturday, but I’ve been struggling so much with the leg of late it made sense to give it the most chance of recovery, so we went for it! Was certainly an odd sensation as the nerves fired up, but, after about 30 minutes of treatment, and some exercises and stretches for me to do, I left the treatment centre already feeling a lot looser on
my right side, so hopefully that will help. Bumped into Penny who was working, and had a quick chat with her before heading into New Plymouth with my broken spoked wheel! Off to the bike shop once more. I arrived and Blair asked what was up, I showed him the wheel, and he was suitably impressed that my last ride had been 70 mile plus, said he couldn’t remember the last time he rode that far. Anyway, he told me to go and grab a coffee and he’d check if he had the correct spoke for me. I headed to the coffee shop and grabbed some breakfast, chatted on facebook with Helen, who, having been sound asleep when I left this morning, was wondering when I was coming home!! I finished up my drink and headed back to the shop, and Blair handed me another wheel, with my cassette already fitted to it, because he’d not had the correct spoke in stock to be able to fix my wheel, so was sending me off with a spare so I could keep training! He said he’d be able to get the correct part in for tomorrow, and, when I mentioned we
were off to Taupo on Wednesday, he said he should be able to get it fixed ready for me to collect Wednesday morning. Its this sort of service which makes this my favourite bike shop in the entire world! Helen had been talking about some cycle shorts she’d seen in the bargain basement section, and I asked about whether I’d be able to return them if they weren’t the right size, and he said I didn’t even need to pay for them, if they were no good, simply bring them back, and if they are any good, just bring the label with me to scan and pay for them. So, with wheel in hand, I headed to the Warehouse to get a jack for the car, which it was missing, some glass cleaner and screenwash to make sure we had the car as ready as possible for the trip to Taupo, and, with the means of being able to repair a spare wheel if needed, I headed home to find Helen.
There was card making happening when I got back, and so I decided that, with Martin and Penny over for dinner in the evening, I figured I’d make
use of the spare wheel and see how the leg was following the physio, so I saddled up and heading out…….and, of course, no sooner had I headed out than it finally decided to rain….and rain it did! I got absolutely soaked, despite it only being an hour ride, and, by the time I got back, it was at least dry for my 30 minute run. The leg felt really good, much less tight than it had been before, no issues at all on the ride and only the aching of the massage needles stopped me being able to run uphill, but a complete training session, before heading back for a shower and getting ready for Martin and Penny coming for dinner. That was really good fun, great to see them and just relax for an evening, before heading to bed for a relatively early night.
