... for a lovely engagement party. We had a really nice time - around forty people turned up last night, and there was a great barbecue and lots of food (of course.) The highlight of the evening was a cake we didn't know existed, featuring a giant photo of our giant heads. Hilarious! I'll post photos sometime while we're still in NZ.... read more

So I've not entered a blog for awhile. This is because we've been quite busy, and our internet usage has been a bit limited. We're now staying with Paul's parents in Hamilton, but their internet connection is slooooooooooow so we've now headed to an internet cafe to prevent hogging up their phone line. Let's see, where did I last leave off... guess we would have been in Nelson, which was enjoyable, if rather rainy. From Nelson we spent the night in Picton, which is the ferry port at the top of the South Island. Our hostel was okay - free apple crumble! - but I was about ready to have a nervous breakdown when we entered our dorm room to find ten beds. They were mostly filled with Germans amusing themselves by swearing in English. Also, ... read more

Arrived in Hamilton just in time for the ballon festival. Joined The Dodds for their celebratory meal at joseph and stacey's house - luckily we chose to stay in a motel right opposite the Pak'n Save where Joseph works. This morning we walked along beside the river to the museum where we met them all for morning tea.... read more

Well I returned to Cambridge in time for the Easter Egg hunt in Wendy and Jeremy's garden. It is like returning home and the car is now known as Liz's car!! Wendy's friend who took us to the cricket match has sadly broken her leg, so I am teenage sitting her son tomorrow together with Alex. He is a good cricketer so I expect I shall be spending quite a bit of that time coaching him!! At least the Test Match was lookinga little better the last time I looked. 304 for 3 - that's good! Tomorrow I am off up to Auckland after the Teenage Time, to stay with another friend just north of Auckland, then it will be time to start the journey home. Yet again, eight weeks has flown by and yes, I ... read more

Wednesday 12th March, I got the train to Sydney airport early (Tom dropped me off at Richmond at around 8am - thanks again Tom)- ready for the 11.30am flight to Auckland. The Air New Zealand flight was half an hour delayed and they obviously had a big team on board, because I've never heard so much chit-chat to the passengers, on and off for a large part of the 3 hour flight. There was a not very enjoyable film, Suburban Girl starring Sarah Michelle Geller and Alec Baldwin (yuck). Guess Singapore Airlines has spoiled me for life! I arrived in Auckland and had collected luggage etc. by about 6pm NZ time (they are 2 hours ahead of Australia). Got myself a NZ sim card, if anyone wants to text just let me know - I'm on ... read more

Many congratulations to you too xxx The first test match finished today & yes England lost. It was a great 5 days though, despite the burning heat. I can't tolerate it like I used to. Everyone is in the pub having a comiseratory few drinks, so Ive sneeked off to the internet cafe to do this short note. The 'Barmy Army' were is great song the whole time & even the Queen graced us with her presence. It was a brilliant 5 days ... read more

England played well today in Hamilton - it was so good to see them play again, and lovely to be at a ground that allows you to sit on the grass to watch. It was the first of three Test Matches and perhaps I shall be at or near Wellington when they play the second Test.... As we went into the ground at Hamilton, we were searched for drugs, alcohol etc, then they proceeded to sell lots of alcohol at the game. Odd that, we wanted to drink some good red wine and all they sold was a revolting gassy beer. However, we got over that and just had a wonderful day. It was good to see the young players who had featured in some of our coaching conferences actually playing in the match - Ian ... read more

Well this trip started with the 4 of us travelling together, and now there are 5 of us! That's right Mandy is having a baby!!!!! She is nearly 3 months pregnant, and has had a scan - and everything is OK. So our trip together will change as Mandy is not able to go to any countries where we need to take malaria tablets. So Chris and I will be going to Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and India by ourselves. Mandy and Miles are unsure of their plans after Australia, they might stay in Thailand for a bit longer. We have just got back from the 4th day of the cricket - a fantastic day but I will do a separate post about it. So that's the exciting news from NZ - and for Mandy's friends and ... read more
