Santas before the swim
Chris, me and Adam, ready for our Christmas dip MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
😊
I know this blog has been fairly inactive of late, but then so has my travelling. It was important for me to be somewhere with friends for Christmas and new year and Paihia was certainly the right choice. The friends I have made here, in the short time of two months, are more plentiful than I have made in the last two years at home.
Christmas is never all it is advertised as. For so many people it is a horrible, painful and traumatic time of the year. Personnally, I hate the build up. Advertising from September in shops, TV adverts months before hand, magazines throwing it in your face, in fact, in the UK we have little choice but to have Christmas hit us in the face and rammed down our throats whether we like it or not and its usually just shy of another dissapointing summer. Everyone is over worked, over stressed and highly strung. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Christmas day, spent with the family, great food... but I am rather a Humbug untill then. The lack of this build up and the heat made the build up somewhat

The best looking spread I have ever seen different. It wasn't even untill December itself that I even thought about Christmas and shared the sentiments with my fellow backpackers "It doesn't feel like Chrismas, isn't it wierd?!"
This was, in fact, the best thing that could have happened. No stresses from jobs, advertising asaulting you, everything i hate about christmas, was gone. I had the amazing luxury of choosing to get into the Christmas spirit, a truely unique experiance. So, upon stealing the bosses car, I headed to the wearhouse for fun gifts for folk. I picked up a wee tree, decorations for my room, a whole load of silly gifts for a santas grotto and the best ten dollars i have ever spent went on a santa outfit! This gave me the wonderful opportunity to get dressed as santa, wrap and even deliver my presents under my tree on Christmas eve! Ho Ho ho...
The rest of the night was spent having a fantastic time on the beach with champagne, bonfires and dancing santas. I woke with having about 3hrs rest to another santa jumping onto my bed, thanks matt, no no, really. But what the heck, it was Christmas day and in

Awesome, what else needs to be said?! the spirit of it santa got up and started to play his christmas album "So Christmasy it'll make you vomit" as lound as he could around the Pipi patch complex. Despite the lack of sleep and the odd sore head, everyone was feeling very festive. There was a lot to do so, assisted by a Jager bomb, we started to pel potatos for the orphans dinner. That was interrupted by the call for the three santas to go for a christmas swim, which we unhessitantly obliged in. Unfortunatly, youtube wont upload it, no idea why but if any of you are on facebook, you can see it on my videos. Or try this link
Santaswim This little caper was follwed by an hours relaxing, beer in hand, in the hot tub in the hot sun 😊 Does it get much better?! Then it was down to work. Once more into the national dress and on with making the potato salad. The feast that was prepared was amazing, truely awesome. There were about 50 Pipi Patch christmas orphans and we all had a great day. I even was found doing Kareoke to "I would walk 500 miles" amongst other
things that can be seen on facebook too!
The day ended in the early hours of the morning, once again, in the hot tub. It was truely a fantastic Christmas. I did really miss the family, it was weird without them. But despite that, it couldn't have been better. So, now I look to spend the same type of celebrations with the same guys for New year. That will leave me just two weeks left when I get to meet my folks in Auckland when they come over there for a holiday! The only sad thing is that the job I was being so secretive about is happening and means i get less time with mum and dad. What is this job? I get to be a werewolf in the film Underworld III! And that is the reason for the aweful and somewhat speradic hair on my face, it is by their request for filming. Have a great New Year one and all, Merry christmas.
