We picked up our campervan today, which we plan on making our home for the next two weeks. Having picked up the van at 5.30pm, we left Auckland and headed further north towards the Bay of Islands. We didn’t get very far that night as we stopped to fill the fridge with food and cook our first meal in a lay-by - we enjoyed “home” cooking after six weeks of eating out! That night we slept in an I Site (tourist info) car park in Whangerei (pronounced Fangeri in Maori tongue). The following morning we set off for Pahia - but didn’t get very far! Ten minutes into our journey a Scottish guy in a truck ran into the back off us, practically writing off our new van!! Luckily we were both ok, Bex had mild whiplash and Dom was just a bit shaken up (as he was driving). This was really annoying as it wasted the whole day. However all was not lost, we met loads of really nice people and got some useful tips about the rest of our stay (hopefully we will get our $2500 insurance bond back at some point!!).
Eventually our replacement van arrived along
with a huge Maori (we are shocked at how big they are - like blocks of meat!). Later on we finally arrived in Pahia!

Accident
Sorry to hear about your accident; glad you're both ok. Hope you enjoy your time in NZ. We're at Colette's, having just returned from China. Another interesting place to visit. Best wishes, Peter and Susan
