Coming back from a day in town yesterday, I took some pictures of the gardens and houses on Uncle Joe's street.

At the bottom of Uncle Joe's street, Sprott, there is a HUGE field that is used for sports, events and is also a dog park where owners can take their pets off their leads and let them romp.

On my way home this week, I counted 9 separate soccer and cricket games being played on this field with lots of extra space for the dog owners

Normally I would have tried the stitching trick with the camera to show a 360 degree view but can't load the software from Canon at the internet cafes. The bench where Erin and I do our stretches after our run around the park. Three times around takes about 25 minutes, at our slow pace. About 4 km.

These shots were taken around noon, when the morning rush of dogs and owners was over.

These are seen frequently. Made by Maori tradesmen, they are dry stone walls, the stone being brought in from elsewhere on the island.

OF course I am distracted by the low maintenance plants in people's gardens

Ever alert for a opportunity to show Kiwi culture,I spotted this on the way in to town this morning. Note the Canadarm-like extension reaching for the can, eliminating one Domestic Engineer's job.

Completed in about 10 seconds. Truck manoevres around cars parked in the street. One driver, never touches garbage. Pick up twice a week.

In contrast to yesterday's empty park, lots were out today on my walk through.

They stand at the bottom of the driveways - less walking for the postie but available for the public to peruse. Lots are "rustic" like this one.

UP the hill from Uncle Joe, lots of houses have gardens bursting with flora. NO fauna that I could spot.

Very sturdy, these. NOthing that Extreme Engineering would be profiling though.

I had forgotten they were native to NZ. OF course they grow to an amazing size here.
