DAY 5: Friday" FINALS DAY."

Today’s game is at 1 pm so we are keeping office hours and because it’s not a hair straightening day we pull out of the camp at 8 am.

There’s the normal coffee stop, only a double for me today, Harry wanted to take my temperature. The Routine stays the same, the team walk the horses across the road, breakfast, tend to the odd cuts, kicks, and battle wounds , get a wash and shampoo. Salt water wash with Manuka honey for a saddle sore on Mavis, a bit of extra attention for Ngaio as she had a bit of a limp last night, seems clear this morning, an extra cuddle for Gypsy this morning as she seems to need it.

Tig and Rich arrive mid morning all is relaxed. The pre game preparations begin

12pm Saddle up.

12.40 Whites on

12.50 Gentle warm up

12.58 Photographer in place

1.10 Game starts!!!!!

1.14 1st Wanstead goal

Four goals in the 1st chukka, they held them out in the second, third and fourth chukkas Wanstead really played well. Good marking, backing up, riding off and hitting. Uunee

EEEW OOOOOW
had a good run scoring at both ends in 2 minutes. A good result, Hunty reckoned he could hear Harry down the other end of the complex against the wind.

There’s still talk of joining Tig and Rich at the cocktail party, Bo in his $10 jacket, Harry $40 fully dressed including bling, Cody Jones being very fussy wouldn't find anything and Rachael still looking for some gear. Sweep stake on how many of us, if any, make it tonight, even with, got to do it for the team.

We had to wait for a couple more finals before prize giving where not only did Wanstead get the Naught goal prize, Cody Jones receives Most Valuable Player for the section, no horse for a clean sweep and no silverware, up a few more sections needed before they get the take homes for the trophy cabinet at Opiango Café!

A few celebratory beers for the evening and its headed back to camp for a quick shower and hello “2 out of 3 aint bad” Cody Jones, Harriet and Bo headed for the city and a cocktail party. Cody gets a shirt and jacket, Bo a shirt from Kibby,

the wardrobe master and we only pass inspection with an iron of Bo’s pride and joy jacket.

We were far from under dressed; the word cocktail party has lost its definition. After a couple of hours trying to yell over loud music we are headed out the door with Marilynne and Gary to find a feed.

Finding a very nice restaurant across the courtyard and after a divine pinot, some tasty courses a bit of bonding, Cody’s nearly asleep at the table, Marilynne also struggling ,its been a long day, with plenty of excitement, time to head home wrap up a good day, Its been a fun tournament and a great experience , I’m headed out in the morning with the horse truck. Back home

Back to work…
