Goat Island and Auckland, Bye to Jucy Day 74 December 14, 2008 We woke up to gray skies, but no rain. No matter, the morning was spent cleaning out the van and giving away salt, pepper, butter, and laundry detergent. We managed to eat all the food we had in the van so little was wasted. The beach here at Paihia started getting lively early with people swimming and little kids running around. We weren’t very eager to leave. I thought we were done with dirt roads (they called them “shingle” roads here) but I inadvertently led us on one last adventure going the back way to Goat Island. Goat Island is a marine preserve where we were going to snorkel, but when we got there we decided the water was too cold. We could see ... read more

After we arrived here, we quickly settled down, found soon a job and an apartment. We were living at queen Street, where the Santa Parade was going on at the first weekend in December. It was really strange, the first Christmastime in summer. 25 Degrees and Santa Parade. But we enjoyed our experience. Just have a look. Also we went to the Piha Beach on the Westcoast of Auckland. Really nice as you can see. Its a paradise for surfers. There are a lots of surfschools around. And also here you find a few pics just around Auckland..... ... read more

So what can we say about Los Angeles that hasn’t been written about or commented on a million times over? Well, we found it quite interesting. We got the bus up from San Diego. It was only a 2 hour drive, but it was the 1+half hour wait that preceeded it that was a little unpleasant! We had The Fifth Element on DVD on the wall to keep us entertained but our Greyhound Bus experience left a little to be desired. They weren’t very fothcoming with information about why the bus was late or even when they were expecting it to arrive! Then when we finally arrived in LA, we weren’t in the station we were expecting to be! Quite a bit away from it in actual fact! So with the bus journey behind us and ... read more

YEEEEHAAAAA!!!! (03-05 Dec 2008) You look forward to something all year and then you wake up and that day is today! Tuesday I had a hairy moment before boarding, I left my passport & tickets on the bench where I was sitting when I was talking on the phone. Luckily it was still there when I returned! I boarded the plane around 13:00 & was so calm throughout the whole affair. The food on the plane was actually pretty good & I got a nice seat at the bulkhead where I could extend my legs fully! I met a lady, Ursula, on the plane. She's from Carltonville, JHB, on her way to visit her daugter in Browns Bay. We chatted quite a bit & traveled together through the stop-over in Singapore. We touched down around 05:50. ... read more

Hello all, for the last time from beautiful New Zealand. We are once again in Auckland city, where, for the thrid time last night we crashed and landed in transit. We have been here for a day of laundry and chores in order to organise ourselves to leave for Fiji tomorrow at ridiculous o clock - (otherwise known as 5 am). The week that has been since I last wrote has been one of the best, if not the best I have had here in New Zealand, as Nic and I made our own way around the Northland by means of my new favourite mode of transport - a CAMPERVAN! (Mum and Dad, if you are struggling for ideas for what to buy me for Christmas, then why not go for a campervan?! - it'd look ... read more

(N) I began November with less discipline than could have been desired. The night of Friday 31st October should have been a quiet relaxing affair, as we were both entering the Auckland Quarter Marathon on Sunday. However, it was the leaving party for Nigel, the guy who hired me into my current role and who I got on well with. I don’t think it’s necessary to go into detail other than to say that we had a great night of food and beer but at 5a.m., having bet all I was willing to on black jack in the casino, I couldn’t help but reflect that my preparation for the running could indeed have been better - as I was going to bed, I had to get up in exactly 24 hours to head towards the starting ... read more
