Kava!!Kava!!Kava!!

Kava any one? This muddy looking drink makes you smile and gives you a numb mouth!! cool
Bula!
Short delay in writing this as we have been on Fiji time and have had a lack of electricity. Practically no contact with the outside world. It has been brilliant.

We arrived on the 27th of April fairly late in the afternoon. We were greeted by our fantastic host Mama. She turned out to be a legend... She had us all organised and leaving on the first ferry on the 28th! She organised three separate islands for us to visit and all the transfers. We sat back and relaxed!

Our first resort was Walu Beach, a luxury resort right on the beach, with fantastic food. This three days was spent relaxing, the resort also became "Team Zephyr's" Training Camp. We had a lot of fun here, with our first experience of Kava, its suppose to make you sleepy, but it kept Simon and I awake! It was like drinking muddy water! Lovely!

WE CHILLED

Our next resort "Barefoot" was fantastic for completely different reasons. The resort was on a small island, which had no electricity. We had a very basic Bure, but it was on the beach and we had our own private hammock! What

more do we want. Ok one more thing, great snorkeling. The resort was next to a channel, which was the home of the manta ray. They are the most elegant creature I have ever seen. We were lucky enough to see them every day. This resort showed us the true Fiji life, with a very relaxed way of life. We planted some Pa Paya trees, we were shown how the islanders made baskets out of Palm leaves. (Simon was shown the other use for these baskets... Check out the photo!) Simon also got to put his muscles to the test, he was shown how to brake a coconut open with his bare hands. He did manage it without breaking his hand (Jill I promise he is ok...) It was a great experience.

WE LAID IN THE HAMMOCKS SOME MORE

Our last resort was different again, unfortunately they had lost there beach. We so a different side to Fiji here, we visited a village and bought some local craft work. The children at the resort were great, they were fascinated by us. It is a fairly new resort, so I don't think they were used to seeing so many

white people. I put on my teaching hat and taught the kids how to play cards. We left them 'connect four' hopefully they will be better at this when we get back.

WE CHILLED SOME MORE

We arrived back to the mainland, again to be greeted with a big cuddle from (big) Mama. She feed us and organised our last few days in Fiji.

We went to Nadi, the city, not really the best or the most beautiful part of Fiji.

Our final day was comical, we had our own taxi for the day, we went to the valley of the giants. These are the gardens at the foot of a hill that looks like a sleeping giant. Following this we were taken to a field in the middle of nowhere for the hot springs and mud baths. No word of a lie this was two holes in the field... We laughed a lot! We had to experience it, so we had a dip in the first hole, it was so hot! The most fun began when we found the MUD hole, I think Simon forgot that I was brought up with two brothers. We had

the best mud fight. It was really fun.
When we got back to Mama's she said "how was it?" and started laughing! She thought it was so funny, that we actually went in... What a great end to the trip.

We have know arrived in the fantastic city of San Fransisco. We have a week here to explore and then we will be back home.

See you all soon
Catherine and Simon.
