After a week on beaches we were looking forward to a cruise around the Yasawa Islands. The cruise was called the Wanna Taki Cruise and was renown for being a party boat. We were greeted by song, dance and a refreshing cocktails. The boat was impressive; top deck was for sunbathing, diving off, drinking and eating whilst the bottom deck had TV facilities and our beds for the next 2 nights.
We met up with some English guys and American girls from previous Islands and decided to take a trip snorkelling around the nearby reef. There was supposed to be giant manta rays around however we only managed to view the normal clown and nemo fish. I was tying to improve my swimming technique with my flippers on, however this resulted in my receiving outrageous cramp so I had to take time out back on the boat.
In the afternoon we opened the gate on the top deck in order to jump 20feet into the sea. I suprised myself by doing a front flip and a backflip as I had been pretty much immobile because of my arm over the last few months.
After afternoon tea we decided to
canoe to a nearby Island where lay on the beach and watched the sun start to set.
In the evening we helped ourself to a dinner buffet and then the party started! We had competitions to see who was the best pole dancer, a violent game of musical chairs and a very intimate game of pass the card using only the mouth. Later on the fijian captain had caught a baracuda off the side of the boat, the same breed of fish that a few months earlier had bitten a mans leg off on the same cruise!
We had 2 more days on the boat and we continued to jump off the boat, sleep on the deck and socialise. I also met some girls that were going to my university this year.
Manta Ray Island.
It was back to dry land and to an Island famous for its manta rays. We were intitated onto the Island with a heated game of volleyball, a great way to meet new people. The Island was by far the best Island so far with great facilities and even a proper restaraunt. We had an amazing 3 course meal that evening
followed by New Zealand vs England on TV which we unfortunately were thrashed in.
Manta Ray was far too expensive for us to stay for more than one night so after a morning swim and sunbathe it was time to move to our final Island -South Sea!
South Sea Island
This Island was tiny, seriously you could throw a stone from one side to the other. Also we had a great surprise when we arrived as Kain and Judy our great friends from New Zealand were there! We had a few beers with Kain on the beach, catching up on each others adventures and watching the sunset. Later that evening we had crab races! This is where hermit crabs had numbers painted on their backs and had a circle drawn around them. The winner was the first crab out the circle and money was placed on each crab. Kains crab got to the final and then some clumsy girl accidently trod on the poor thing.Game over.
Today we were going on another days cruise however we had free food and drink all day! Our fist stop of the day was a local tribal village where we
treated to a local carva session. Kain and James were lucky enough to be involved as they were wearing traditional dress..a sarong. We also had a shop around the local markets where canibal forks were being sold! We then had a gigantic BBQ and we were all stuffed. Our next stop was the one and only Castaway Island where Tom Hanks filmed. We went snorkelling, made spears and tried to catch fish however were unsuccessful. We then adventured around the Island imagining ourselves as castaways, climbing trees for cocunuts and making friends with footballs called Wilson. However we then jumped back on the boat and helped ourselves to a beer.
We arrived back at South Sea later and played gladiators in the pool and volleyball on the beach. Our last evening in Fiji was delightful; we had a roaring beach bomfire where we chatted with friends, played cards and reminised about our past 2 weeks. If I was to sum Figi up in one word it would be CHILLED. Less so than our next country America and first stop LA!
