1 additional video(s) currently being processed After Tasmania, I returned to Melbourne to meet with Joe, Claudette and Nina who had planned the easter weekend in great ocean road region. We visited the most popular site around our camping.
Then I went back to Melbourne and work a bit on my van to improved and fix little details noted during the Tasmania and great ocean road trip. Belived me now, buy everything you might need in Melbourne or Sydney otherwise it will get expensive and hard to find if you head for the west coast. I miss a power converter, fishing gear, body board by the time I realize it, shop for it it was late in the trip and expensive.Nevertheless I was ready for the leg Melbourne-Perth
In Mebourne I publish/advertised to other backpacker in hostel and on the web 2 spots ridesharing. I got some answer and tried to meet them. I choose to travel with a french guy and a french girl. The girl had to stay one more day in Melbourne and she was going to joins us in Adelaide the following day. I end up travelling with the french guy only. At this moment I learned that backpaker always keep
their option open which mean they don't really commit and stick to what they tell. I had to refuse other person so it end up costing us more money to travel.
I did Melboune-Adelaide in one day. Left my travelbody in Adelaide for few days. I visited the city quickly that night and early the following morning. This was just a overnight stop for me because I was going Cowell 5 hours west of Adelaide. All my Mebourne familly (Simon, Margareth, Claudette and Joe) were there to visite relative Val, Barry and Darel familly on their sheep farm. That was a great experience for me.
During my stay we went crab fishing, I have done some walk on the farm and I help a bit driving the UTE and troubleshooting some electronic. Be a farmer means be a electrician, a car mecanic, a technician in electronic and probably more. There is quite a bit to learn there with a bit more of time but I had a plan and I couldn't change everything that early there was so much more to see ahead.
After few days on the farm I met with my travelmate to start the
crossing of the nulabor desert. It was not the time fopr whale watching so we did it in 3 days, 2 nights. Note that the diesel can be very expensive in some roadhouse so one advise is to plan where to refill. It vary from $1.30 to $1.89 per liter. We mainly slept in rest area on the side of the road. We took some break for refulling and visiting some national park mainly for whale whatching but it was not the right period to see them. With the camp5 book we found some nice and remote campsite just at the end of the Nulabor desert after Norsman.
After those long day of driving we stop fews day in Esperance a nice town then a national park cap le grand for 3 days. We continue west passing Albany toward Perth. One night in Boxhill around Albany we manage to sleep in the parking of a football field. A car stop by and offer help we were in the process of deciding which turn we had to take. The man informed us there was a football match earlier and the cafeteria was open. So we got there and for troubleshooting
the sound system they offer us to camp there and use the facilities. You had to know were that field was because there was no houses around farmer drove 100Km from every direction for this evening. I think this was a big happening there. We had a great diner, beer and I even had time to learn australian football with the kids that were still playing on the field. I also tried to play a bit of american "touch" football with them...I was surprise how far i could trow the ball.
Then chasing free campsite we visited Danemark and around Nornalup National park just after Albany we met 2 girls travelling one from Quebec and one from France similar as us but feminin version of travelmate. We spend fews days following eachother car. It was fun because some free campsite are quite remote and knowing another "team" will be there make it mure fun. So we when to the giant tree in Pemberton and the fire tower. We found a spot to camp south of Bunbury and we visited Margareth river, Bunbury where we saw at dust a dolphin near the beach shore and Freemantle before stoping in Perth
for 7 days.
In conclusion some very good free campsite are can be deserted so it's fun to travel in convoys. I still asking myself where do the wicked camper we see on the road go to sleep at night. We couldn't find many. It's also hard to find a travelmate. Everything went well with the travelmate but we had quite different personnality and you cannot see that in a 30 min meeting before few days before starting the trip. I like campsite with people to share travel plan he liked more being by himself far from everything. We found some middle by staying fews days in city between free campsite. This is were I realized there were a lot a place to fish and I should have bought a rod. For swimming it was still to cold for me..
