Australian Adventure

Hi All,

My partner & I are looking to buy/rent a campervan for about 2months in October of this year to travel around Australia. Our plan is to set out from Sydney and then head to Melbourne-Adelaide-Kangaroo Island-Alice Springs-Darwin-Cairns-Brisbane (or the other way around, your advice would be appreciated) and then back to Sydney in November/December. We are looking to hear from anyone who has done, or is thinking of doing a similar adventure. We would like to hear about:

1) Your advice on wheather to rent or buy?
2) Starting out from Sydney and going Clockwise or Anti-clockwise on our Adventure?
3) Places of interest that you would highly recommend visiting? (esp. through the outback)
4) Distance travelled? (Have calculated 10,000kms but am thinking it will be more like 12,000kms)
5) Budget per day? (including petrol, food and other general expenses)
6) Items that you wouldn't go without? (apart from the obvious)
7) Maps/Books/Guides? (is this included when renting a vechile)
