We left Johannesburg a week ago on Friday and arrived in Sydney on the Saturday night - a delay with the flight meant that we arrived in Australia later then planned (some problem with one of the aeroplane engines...then the plane was too heavy, so 8 tonnes of cargo had to be unloaded, but fortunately this didn't include our luggage...and then we had to wait for a storm to clear). Anyway, stayed at a large backpacker hostel about 15min walk from Sydney city centre, and about 30mins walk from the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, so went to see these, as well as Manly and Bondi Beach.

Walked around the Botanical Gardens in the city, and went on a tour to the Wentworth Falls and Blue Mountains - although it started raining towards the end of the day we had quite a clear day to begin with so we had some very good views.

Went to Sydney Zoo on the Thursday - enjoyed seeing the kangaroos and koalas!

From Sydney on to Alice Springs and Ayers Rock/Uluru...
