Today was another very action packed day, not for sightseeing but traveling to Perth and then flying to Sydney.
I was up at 500am as usual, I was letting Michael sleep in a little because I our day was going to be long. Before leaving the apartment, at 730am I got Michael up to start packing. We needed to check out of the apartment this morning. Once I dropped off Cindy’s Dad and returned to pick up Michael and then drive him back to the plant for a pre-arranged tour. Our tour took a little over 1 hour. The tour was really fascinating and how all the moving parts come together to make quartz. Here is a link to the company he works for.
http://www.simcoa.com.au/ Once the tour was completed we returned to Bunbury to visit the tourist store for Michael to buy some souvenirs. Cindy’s Dad was traveling separately to Perth for the day for meetings. After a quick shopping trip we returned to the apartment for a quick packing adventure and then lunch one more time in Bunbury. Since we love Henry’s so much, we had lunch there. I had a really yummy chicken wrap and fruit.
Our trip to Perth was uneventful. The journey took about two hours. I drove one last time on the left side of the road. The freeway traffic driving was easy however when we got closer to Perth and the traffic built, things got stressful, but I survived. Michael slept part of the way. We arrived in Perth about 200pm. We were meeting Cindy’s Dad after his meetings so Michael and I parked at the Bell Tower area in Perth is also located on the Perth Harbor. We walked around and took a few photos which are attached. Once Cindy’s Dad arrived we drove to King’s Park which is situation on a hill overlooking Perth. The view from King’s Park into the city was absolutely beautiful. I attached a few photos of the city and the harbor area. If Michael and I had arrived early we could have taking a harbor tour, but lunch at Henry’s was much better. Here is an interesting website on Perth and what there is to do here.
http://www.showmeperth.com.au/ We walked around the park for awhile and then drove to south Perth and parked our car at a parking spot on the south part
of the harbor. We stopped at a restaurant where Cindy and Jennifer ate at when they visited called Coco. We made a reservation for 715pm, our flight to Sydney was not until 1155pm. We walked to towards the Zoo which was closed, but the walk was very nice. It was starting to cool down and get windy; however we found a really neat bar at the Windsor Hotel. We ordered a beer, Michael water. We ended finding a seat in front of a fireplace. What a great way to relax while we wait for our dinner reservation.
Our dinner at Coco restaurant was fantastic. Interesting observation for a lot of Australian restaurants, this restaurant included, they are outdoors. This restaurant was outdoors and it was freezing. The only saving grace was the tower propane heaters they put close to the tables. Even then if there is a breeze, the heat does not work well. The view from this restaurant of the Perth harbor and the city lights was awesome. We really enjoyed our time here.
We arrived at the Perth airport around 1000pm and returned the Avis rental. Again we had to check our carryon bag on Qantas.
Another interesting observation we noticed here in Perth and also in Ayers Rock when going through security there is no ID checks, just straight through security screening. What a different way of doing things from the states. It takes the phrase no worries to a new level. Prior to our red eye flight to Sydney, we waited in the Qantas business lounge. We were so tired really did not get enjoy it much.
On Friday we will arrive in Sydney at 600am and have a full day activities. I will update my travel blog then.
