Monkey Mia
This is a collection of notes and not as well written as the last blog, however it gives a flavour of this part of the trip.
We are having problems finding internet connections, so the blogs will be updated as internet connections become available.
Its written by Judi and me at odd times, so that it appears odd at times as to who is writing this. But that’s ok.
The countryside is red and dramatic - lots of red dirt, white and sand coloured sand.
After a 6 hour drive we arrived at the Monkey Mia gate with Temp at 48ish.
We had lovely rooms with views over beach and a Barbie on the porch.
Unpacked - showered and dressed for dinner. Restaurant was lovely, but hot. We had good food “Australian tucker”
Dolphins swam in view whilst eating-first sight. Finished dinner feeling bagged up.
Walked onto beach, Big full moon, warm air, some pesky flies and we spotted
dolphins, they came in close to us in the dark, only a few feet away. .
We then as the stars were clear and bright, walked back to room and flopped into bed, tired but happy..
Day 2
Lizzie was
up first and off down the beach to meet the dolphins, we got up and Judi went first down to the beach. I was sorting the cameras out and followed a little later. Rushed out of the room and stood on a nail on the porch and got a nasty cut. Fixed it and came down to dolphins later.
The Rangers gave a talk for half hour, as the dolphins need to be in the shallow water for that length of time before being fed. Stood in water with them, awesome. The Dolphins frolicked about for a while, about 8 of them some babies, lots photos. Before they came in Judi and Lizzy went to ask wardens if anyone remembered Sara’s ashes being scattered, no one did. They asked if they could be chosen to interact with them they let Lizzy feed one.
When feeding time came everyone stepped out of the water and the dolphins were fed in a controlled way. Lovely to see. Lizzy and Judi very happy. Poor me, had to come into the sea with socks and shoes on because of injured foot.
Breakfast eaten in the chalet , Judi sat on porch, a dream, it
was paradise, got emotional for all sorts of reasons, it was very hot, went up to 48
Spent day lazing, explored the site, Lizzy and Judi went swimming a lot, and messed with the underwater camera -lots of fun and giggled muchly.
Murdo was in the chalet mostly recording the blog and sorted photos for posting.
We went to restaurant for lunch, nice. Went to shop bought food and had a great bbq cooked by lizzie for dinner. Meat and fish fingers, salad and fruit and ice cream, sat outside to eat, great-drank wine and talked and laughed. Met a Scottish back packer working in the shop
Next morning a ickle lie in.-saw dolphins swimming across the bay in front of our chalet whilst eating breakfast-awesome
We went out on a boat to see wild life on a catamaran. It was very hot, good crew, saw turtles, doogons, comorants, great to be on a boat, went a way out to sea. Back for lunch. Eat at restaurant as starving when came off boat. Judi nearly sun stroke. Went to lie down, lizzie swam, Murdo went to internet to upload blog. Judi woke up and went to swim, water choppy, had
to watch for stingrays and water snakes. Lizzy went to lie down, Murdo went into the sea with Judi, had a laugh and played in the water with the camera.
Lizzy booked a table for restaurant, we all got dressed up and had a lovely meal, spent ages sitting talking to each other. Walked on the beach in the dark in hope to see dolphins, not appeared but good time anyway. Tired and went to bed.
Next day Friday 13. Lizzy woke us up as we had slept in.
Rushed down to beach - took water camera - Lizzy in front of dolphins - she got to feed them again - dolphin playful and showing off - Murdo went to shop - Judi and Lizzy packed up. Left Monkey Mia about 11am and set out for a two day trip back to Perth to get the train to Sydney.
