Today we left Denham - WAHOO! Settled in on the grass tent area!!! Had a look around and there is a pool, tennis courts etc so they must get alot of visitors who stay a long time.
We got to meet the local Emu - who wonders around the campsite... !
At 1pm we had a boat trip on a Catamaran called the Shotover. We went on a 3 1/2 hour cruise in and around the Bay. We only got a few K's offshore but we saw massive turtles. In the area there are loggerhead and green turtles, the loggerhead ones sunbath on the surface so easier to see and the others only pop up for a breath every 12 hours or so then go back down to the bottom of the ocean.
Saw the group of wild male dolphins, and the famous Dugongs... these are weird looking creatures, they are a mixture between dolphins, wales, seals and sea-lions. They are very rare to see and very hard to take a photo of ( so we have a picture of a plastic one from the info centre!!! ). There are very few left in the wild, 10% are off South Africa and 90% are in the Australian waters, 14% of which are in Shark Bay due to the amount of Sea Grass. The Sea Grass attracts a very large amount of sea creatures - one of the reasons it's a World Heritage Site. There are also lot's of Tigger Sharks - but didn't get to see any :-(
Saw a massive Eagle Ray, had to turn the boat around to get a better look as they don't see them every day!
We got to see a mother Dugong with the baby on it's back, they cling on then hover above the mum whilst she is breathing. They have to come up to the surface every 10-15 mins to get air.
Chris was very proud of getting me on a boat - i wasn't even sea-sick! We got to sit in the net in the middle, great fun! Enjoyed it so much i even agreed to go on another trip on another evening.
Went out for dinner, really nice food in the only restaurant there... lot's of fresh sea-food. Got to try a local wine - well from WA - came from Magaret Rive, really nice!!! Found out the Australian's really like
