Well nice and early start, had to be at the Easy Rider office at 7am luurvelly! anyway, least our grotty hostel had one thing good that it was accross the road fromt he office - hurray! We are armed with Supernoodles and a bag full of apples - the budgeting begins!!
We met Reg our driver who seems cool - he's like the BFG - Big Friendly Giant for those of you who have not read that quality book! He's 6ft 6 and stocky and about 40 odd. Good fun he is! Our group is very mixed, you dont mx as much as we did on the north trek as everyone does their own thing for food etc but we got on well with everyone they were all cool! So its all gravy!
We stopped for'morning tea' (how civilised!) at Dawesville bay whihc was pretty, it's a bit chilly the wind though today! ooooh get me long johns on...ha ha...no not quite that bad! We then stopped at Bunbury Dolphin Centre as sometimes wild Dolphins come into the shore however no such luck for us I am afraid! Think we were a bit late but they don't feed the dolphins
like they do in monkey Mia in the North so that's probably why they don't come! We learned a few bits and bobs though about Dolphins and that they aren't always as nice as it appears! The boys are very mean to the girls during mating season!
We then moved onto Busselton which has a pier that was 1.9km long - Lou felt at home having a pier 0 slightly larger than Wigans though! By 1.9km!! Once again the beach was gorgeous! We had a quick paddle - sea STILL cold, its not getting any hotter!!
We then headed to Meelup bay for lunch and a quick dip! those sexy fly nets nearly had to show face again but I resisted this time round! very annoying these flies and they seem to like me! Meelup Beach was another stunning beach and gorgeous turquoise waters - very refreshing!
Next up was Canal rocks which were brilliant! Canal rocks are rocks just off the coast line, that form a canal running through the rocks in the sea and the waves of the Indian Ocean crash through and over like it's a canal! We had to clamber over the rocks
top see the best part which was an excellent achievement by myself I feel considering I did it in flip Flops!!! (Ozzies call these thongs by the way - quite amusing at times (just for the record thong knickers are g-strings over here - what?? I had to ask didn't I
?!) yes so back to the rocks...it was brilliant to see, the waves were massive and kept crashing over them and through them! The wind was so strong round the back you kind of had to stand squatting to keep your balance - must have looked like right prats! We kept losing our balance and nearly falling over! All great fun and a nice challenge! We had one casualty, he tripped over his laces (ha ha eh - and who said trainers were better than flip flops - no laces to trip over there!)
Lots of stops and sights today so it's quite bitty bitty! Next stop was Margaret River and it's time to do what Marg is famous for - wine tasting!! You could have 6 tasters or 3 taster snad bread and olives, no guesses what us Northern girls went for - yep 6! Practice makes
perfect is the angle I would like to take! - Chris and Martin - I am ready for your next wine tasting evening! Luckily we had Kristy on board the coach who happens to work for a wine company and is quite the pro! She taught us what we had to do, a swirl and a smell and the a sip with a slurp to get oxygen in their as that brings out the flavour - apparently! I l;iked the most expensive one the best - how typical! It was an oakey one. have learnt some new phrases like - it's a fruity little number and it's quite oakey - there, I am almost an expert! The setting for the wine tasting was lovely though - it was on the lawn area by the vines and the lakes. The toilets were luch as well - one cubicle was bigger than our bathroom - I am so going up in the world! This vine yard though is nicked named 'Chick on a Stick' - see photo to clarify why. Have no idea why its there but there you go.. one of lifes mysteries I guess!
We went to Surfers Point
after with our glowing cheeks and we needed it - talk about freezing!!! It was sooo windy! There were no surfers, just windsurfers but this is also where Margaret RIver (the actual river) meets the Ocean. It's great to see! We bumped into Teresa the girl from Switzerland who went up north with us which was cool! Nice to see her! we had a nice little surprise on Sufers Point as Reg brough out a bottle of bubby as a treat for us all!
We then drove through Tuart Forrest where there were hundreds of Tuart trees - they are so straight and very tall! we made our way to margaret River town which we were staying in Innestown Backpackers hostel for the night, lovely little place - it's a big house with an extension. Lou, Jenna and me went for a wander in the evening to have a look and it's a tiny place but very quaint and cute! Don't think there was much to do their other than go to wineries and see the river so I personally wouldn't have wanted to stay longers there! It's very cold there though - it's getting chillier the further down
we go! The Thomas Cook Kagool has not come out the backpack yet though!
