On the Move
Cole on the laptop On awaking on Day 13 of our trip we were greeted the sound of rain pelting of the tent. A lovely start to the day and it was to be our first time taking down the tent in the rain. We got lucky though and in-between a couple of breaks in the rain with got the campsite down, said our goodbyes to the couple in the caravan next to us (who gave us an 8 cent off voucher for petrol at Coles and a bag full of freshly made sausage rolls) and hi the road again. Esperance is about 500 km east of Albany and still on the coast so it took us most of the day to get there (considering we only left at about 11 and it gets dark at about 5).
We arrived at about 3 o clock and went about looking for a place to stay! We had talked about going to hostel as it was lashing rain all the way, at one stage I could barely see 20 feet ahead of the car. We priced the local YHA and on learning their price compared to conditions (The old container for dressing rooms at Ahiohill’s pitch
Long Straight
We've the 146 km straight on the Nullarbor to come yet like! would have been more comfortable) we said we’d tent it. We had two options, a caravan park in town or a National Park about 60km east! We said we’d head for the National Park as we’d be going there in the morning anyway for a look. As we travelled out there, just as dusk fell, a stupid whore of a Kangaroo jumped out in front of us. We barely missed him. It was a slow journey the rest of the way I’ll tell ya!
When we arrived at the park, we paid entry fees and continued down the path towards the camping grounds. It was quite eerie driving through the park at night with no-one within miles and miles. I wasn’t help by Colman going on about scenarios such as axe murder’s and what not. I told him there had better be other people camping here or I’d have to lock myself in the car for the night! When we rocked up, it was probably worse than no-one else camping there. There was a single other one man tent there and a man with a beard that Ronnie Drew would have been proud of! Trouble, big big trouble I
One Other Tent
Psycho Killer Quest Que C'est thought! Wolf Creek moment 3, no doubt about it! Wearily we put up the tent and quickly settled in for the night! I was defiantly in for an uneasy night’s sleep here.
