Sand dunes at Fowlers Bay
Sunset over the dunes at Fowlers bay in S.A. 18th Jan
Well we left Ceduna after a morning of drama trying to update our blog there. So after several hours there instead of 1 we were able to update. The good news however was that due to our late departure from Ceduna we were still in range to hear the news of Sammy being an Autie yet again with Moo moo, a boy without a name, being born to Craig, Lou and Finny. From there we had a short drive to Fowlers Bay where we camped for the night. The beach there is not fantastic for swiming as there is loads of sea weed however there is a nice pier and awsom samd dunes we climed up to enjoy the sunset.

Fowlers Bay ended up being a mosquito haven so we decided rather than sit out another hot day we would scoot across the Nullabor as we were having difficulty tracking down the weather on the radio we were not sure how we would go. We left at dawn enjoying the coolness hoping it might last for a few hours. We tried to stop at the Head of Bight (the top spot for whale watching at the right time
of year) however it was closed. So we journied on and got to the first viewing point of the cliffs that mark the end of the Nullabor and the start of the Great Australian Bight. It was so hot by then (about 9) that we had a quick look and got back in the car to get the hot breeze back on our face. We continued in the heat for several hours stopping at the roadhouses for petrol. At Border Village I was silly enough to purchase a large soft drink whoich we skulled half of each and then spent the next 2 hours feeling very ill in the heat. We stopped under a shade house ( a flat metal roofed shed that collects water) and rested for about 1/2 hour before we decided to hot air in our faces was better than the shade. We got some glimpses of the cliffs as we drove along, too hot to stop at other viewing points. From Eucla we had been following an escarpment. At Madura we went through Kathala Pass back on to the top of the escarpment. There was a somewhat cooler wind blowing and within the hour it had
dropped from 44.8 degrees inside the car to a lovely 30 degrees. We drove for another 2 hours with some cloud cover. We opted not to do the Bird Obsrevatory (32 kms off the road) and wanted to go to the Cocklebiddy Caves howver it was so poorly signed that we were unable to find it. The cloud cover disappeared not long after and the temperature piped back up to mid 30's and up. So after about 13 hours driving and 1100 kms later we arived at Norseman.

From Norseman we had a quick 2 hour cool drive to Esperence. I can not describe, nor will our photo's do justice to the beautiful surrounds of Esperence. Known as the bay of Isles the sourounding seas are dotted with 105 islads and rocky outcrops. A view of the ocean is beautiful but when you add the scenery of these islands it looks like scenery from a pirate ship movie.
21st Jan
We enjoyed some cool weather again today and took ourselves on a scenic drive around Esperence. We walked along the foreshaw and pier but Dave's leg was a bit sore so we didn't go too far. We also
got to meet Sammy the resident Sea Lion who lives under the pier at the bottom of the fish cleaning bay. A young girl gave me a fish she had caught so I could feed him.
22nd Jan
We went to a very average market here tofay. Dennis got wealked along the forshore whilst Dave stayed in bed with Dad. We went for a walk out to Woody Lake just before sunset which has pleanty of birds and great baksia forests.
23rd Jan
Today we put the dogs into prison and went out to Cape Le Grand National Park. We stoped at Le Grand beach, walked up the gentle east slope (not) to Frenchmans Peak with a great cave under the top section of rock and fantastic views from the top although we did have to do a bit of a search for my hat that blew off in the wind on the gentle slopes. from here we drove to Thistle Cove where we heard the whistling rock (it bounces back the sound of the ocean like a shell to your ear) and then to the magical Lucky bay where we enjoyed lunch. This bay appears totally enclosed by the
islands that surround it. We drove out from the National Park to Duke of Orleans bay where we enjoyed a walk along the scenic shores.
24th
Another relaxing day spent here, did some spring cleaning of the car and trailer, read, and had a bite to eat on the windy foreshore and a walk along the beach at 10 mile lagoon.
25th.
Today is going to be a hot one here so updating site before we head back to the van park and relax and maybe a swim before the storm hits.
