21-10-09 We arrived in Carnarvon at 10.30 & went to the info centre to find out which park took dogs & to check our mail. We then went & booked into the Wintersun Caravan Park ( Top Tourist $26 a night & $22 for a weekly rate) It is a nice clean park with GRASS & a cement slab & shady spots. The desk staff are friendly & helpful & the amenities are clean & updated. After setting up Den went off to town to check up on some “Guy Stuff” , like getting tyres rotated , auto electrician, Dr’s appointments etc, etc. I got to & did 4 loads of washing & cleaned the van. Den got home with lots of appointments for tomorrow & then washed our filthy car & it came up like new (well almost) It’s white now instead of brown. We rang Mick & Nick, Val & Hayden (Corey was at work) & Brett & Kara. We caught up on all the goss & Hayden was in for a chat & we found out about all the new additions yo the family, 2 geese. It was nice to talk to him. Maddy has a new cat
which they ha just picked up in Toowoomba & Maddy was proceeding to tell “Arlow” that Jack (the old cat) was now in heaven & he was her new cat. Brett is going really well & it has been 6 weeks now since breaking his leg & he is coping well, driving, swimming etc, amazing. They are at Byron Bay & are going back to Canada for Xmas for 6 weeks at the end of November. We had tea & an early night (lots of them).
22-10-09 Den went off to have his blood test early today, had the tyres rotated & called in on the auto electrician & he has to take the car back in the morning (excuse me Annie is barking to get on the bed, she wont jump now). Back again. Den has to go to the DR’s on Monday avo for results. We then went into Carnarvon town to get a couple of things & we went & had a cappuccino & have a look around the town. It is very well kept with nice gardens in the middle of the street. They have a shopping mall which has the basics. The town itself is
very spread out, with lots of fresh veggie stores as they grow heaps of fruit & veg here & get there water from the Gascoyne River. The plantations extent 16 km along the river & also Prawns & Scallops bring in a lot of money to the area. A pleasant 25 deg today. We then went back to the van & picked up the dogs & went to look at the One Mile Jetty & the Heritage Precinct. We got there & to our surprise the train out to the jetty allowed the dogs on the train. We went & got them out of the car & they went on the train. It is pretty sad in 2007 someone burnt part of the train jetty down & now you cant get to the end, you can only go about 800 mts now. They are having trouble getting the Jarrah wood & labour to fix it. We had a look through the museum & then went for a drive down to the boat ramp , Pelican Pint & the beaches , it was really nice. We then went into town & went to see the harbour, what a beautiful , clean
town, & dog friendly. We got home & rang Hayden as he instructed but he was busy playing the WII so it was a short talk, had happy hour & tea & I had an early night.
23-10-09 Today is catch up day, Den went back to the auto electrician & came back $491 poorer. We were having a problem with our 2nd battery in the car it was not charging our Waeco Fridge in the car. We had replaced it in Mt Isa & paid $350 for it, not happy Jan. The auto electrician explained that we had a battery that needed 14.4 volts & it was only getting 13.7, so they had given us the wrong battery. We had to buy 2 new ones as the main car battery was going too & not charging the 2nd battery at all. Well that’s life , we are fixed now & we can do a bit more free camping without the fridge / freezer defrosting. He came back & we washed the van, clipped & bathed the girls, did some more washing. Den changed the gas lines on the gas bottles . Corey rang & he has finally got his
email working at home, it was good to talk to him. So a busy day had by all. We had tea & watched TV & another early night.
