17-9-09 Mike & Rob rang this morning , so we had a good chat to them which was nice & well, 4 wheel driving & another swim on the beach won this morning. 31 deg today but a nice breeze blowing. We headed off & the tide was pretty high so we had to negotiate a few rocks , but Den is getting pretty good at that now. Once on the sand , we cruised past the nudists ( good on them ) & up the beach to the Dog Beach - Broome has a spot for everyone, great planning. The surf was high & a bit rough so we sat in the water & let the waves roll over us & the dogs were enjoying the water & Annie was scratching around. Next thing I got bitten on my big toe hard, first thought was a small shark, but no “Miss Annie had mistaken my toe for a rock in the sand & clamped her mouth around it. Lucky she has lost a few teeth or I think there might have been some blood (not sure whether hers or mine) I got such a shock & it hurt. After our
swim we took off for a walk up the beach & was approached by a couple that knew us by the dogs from another town, funny they don’t remember us , Ha!, Ha!. We talked to them for a while & then headed back to the car. We then went back & had some lunch, put the exhausted pups to bed, I took some Panadine for my toe & headed off to Broome to do some chores & have another look around . Den had ordered a pipe to sit the Satellite Dish on the front of the A frame of the van, so we picked that up, went & got another pair of swimmers for Den ( they were wearing & getting see through & he did not want to be mistaken for one of those nude swimmers). Posted some mail, then decided to go & have a drink at Matso’s Brewery, where they brew beer on the premises. Well what a neat place, just our “Cup Of Tea” Ha!, Ha! . The bar & restaurant is tastefully decorated & you can sit at the bar & taste test beers before you buy them, Den had a few tastes,
one chilli, what a kick, could not have drunk a whole one. He settled on a dark Ale. I had a test of a Ginger Beer, really nice but settled for a Margaret River Chardy. After 2 drinks we decided we had better go or we would be there for the night, may have to come back for dinner one night. Home to the van & discovered one of the girls - not sure which one has learned how to open the van door & was rescued by a neighbour & put back in. Will have to lock the door from now on. We got tea ready & I answered a few emails & we went to bed. I actually slept right through , one on the wall.
18-9-09 We decided to go to The Port Jetty today & check out fishing options , after a drive around the beaches we walked on the other day, that had disappeared due to the high tide, we headed for the Jetty & saw that you could fish off the side, as they had a special walkway beside the working Jetty for pedestrians & fishermen. The tide was too high & the
current pretty strong so we will have to pick our time to fish. We took the girls for a walk on the beach there, only short as not much sand to walk on & then went back to the car & thought we would go To Willie Creek & have a look, about 37km’s out of town. We found the road & went along & saw a sign Coconut Wells so we turned off onto dirt road & came across a Tidal Bay of water, just beautiful. On our way again we went back to the main road & then turned off to Willie Creek where the Pearl Farm is & went along dirt roads & mud flats to the farm. We visited the pearl shop & then had a look around & we had a light lunch at the Café there & the girls were allowed to sit with us. After lunch we walked down to the Jetty & saw the most amazing aqua coloured water where they farm the Pearls. We could have fished there if we had bought our rods, never mind, next time. We then went back to the van were Den painted & fitted the
pipe for the dish to the van & I defrosted the freezer (again) & cleaned the fridge, got a baked dinner ready & damper. I then sat outside with Den & we read our books. Then a couple of guys introduced themselves , they were from Bega & we had a drink with them, then I got tea & I had an early night & Den sat up & watched the footy. It was on at 10.30, so he had a late night & I am up at 2.30am writing the blog. We are going to the markets tomorrow morning, trying to keep out of the sun a bit as we got a little burnt at the beach the other day. We head to Derby Monday to do our Horizontal Falls Trip on Tuesday so want to be able to go in the sun without getting sunburnt on top of sunburn.
19-9-09 Went to the markets this morning, Den was happy to sit on the grass with the girls & watch the entertainment while I cruised the market stalls . Then he dropped me off at TARGET to get some clothes more suitable for this weather ( shorts are
too hot they cling to you ) have lots of Sarongs & thin strap tops. He left the girls in the van & then we did some grocery shopping. Came home & did some washing (Bum fight for washing machines in the park). We then went down to the Sunset Bar on Cable Beach to watch the Sunset & have a couple of drinks. There was a wedding on the beach (what a perfect setting) & the camels , & 4 wheel drives coming off the beach it was magic ( rave on Shelly). This is so hard to take, someone has to do it though or you would not be reading this blog !Home to getting tea & watching the footy, St George , what have you done!!! They lost Den not happy!!!! Well its 4.15am & still cant sleep (going nuts) anyone got any ideas, tried green tea & camomile tea ,scotch after scotch ,(joke) it’s not funny anymore !!!!!
20-9-09 5 months on the road, can you believe it !!!! Well clean up day today , washing, clean van, wash car Blah! Blah! Blah! Once this is done we can play. We tidied & packed up
as we are off to Derby tomorrow after we go to the Dr’s at 8am to get Den’s blood results. Tuesday we go on our Horizontal Falls trip, cant wait. We decided to go & see the World War 2 plane wrecks off the Town beach that can only be seen at very low tide. It is amazing up here you can have a fall in the tide of 10 mts in 6 hours, Low tide is 0.64 of a mt at 5.48pm & will be high tide of 10.16mts at 11.35pm. Well we got there at 4.15pm & could not believe the tide was so low, there were boats high & dry out of the water & all these people walking out towards the sea. We started to walk & it was incredible all the water still going out & crabs & sea shells in the sand or mud, you had to be careful where you walked as there were sections you just sank into (not good for my feet) . We must have gone 2km out , the shore line was just a speck. We came across the wreck & watched it rise out of the water as
the tide went down. There are at least 3 wrecks out there. We took some pics & thought we should start walking back as it took 30 mins to walk out & we did not want to walk back in the dark & the tide coming in. we thoroughly enjoyed it, we then got the best fish & chips we have had in a long time & took them back to the van & really enjoyed them. We did a bit more packing up, watched TV & went to bed.
