After a day to recover, we decided to hire a car & head south towards Albany - approx 409 km. We immediately noticed the change in scenery as we left the Perth suburbs; comprising of a more Mediterranean landscape, dense forests, lots green vegetation against the dry soil, multiple farms and loads of wineries. We also discovered that this state has the largest number of sheep - approx one million.

Then as we almost reached Albany we decided to do a quick detour to see the Porongurup National Park, which had some impressive unusual rock formations. Unfortunately we were unable to explore the park thoroughly, due to the recent destructive forest fires - we could see many of the trees damaged by the fires covered in black ash - a common problem in WA. Then we headed to our hostel in Albany - very friendly staff who treated us to a free veggie bbq.
