An early start for the long drive down the Hume Highway towards Melbourne. The drought is very apparent here. The land is so dry and parched that it is amazing that the farm animals manage to find enough to eat and drink. We passed numerous signs warning of kangaroos/possums/koalas possibly on the road but didnt see any (other than a few squashed kangaroos on the road). It was a very long drive through some very barren landscapes. We decided to stop at about 6:30 and pitch for the night at a small town called Seymour about an hour short of Melbourne. It had a swimming pool, which was very refreshing after the hot drive. We had a short twilight walk by the local river. Unfortunately some local insect took a liking to my ankles and covered them in incredibly itchy bites.
