7 days to go:
It has been a much shorter time than normal between National Championships and Worlds this year, and today is the first time where I was thinking it would be nice to have a little more time. While everything is going really well and hard work is showing, there is alwyas more to be done, I guess if there was another three weeks when it got close the desire to have more time would still be there.
Travelling to Europe , south America , or even North America has a level of ecitement to it that I have to admit, heading off to China just doesn't have the same "zing" . I am sure it will be enjoyable (a little concerned about the air quality) and hotel looks fantastic , but just not the same sort of excitement. This time next week all the training will be done, all the packing will be done (I can dream) and it will be just left to trying to get some sleep before the late night flight (actually Vuelta will get me through most of the night) . 10.30pm flight on China Southern airlines, hopefully will be a quiet night time flight and we will get some sleep and arrive all ready to go feeling great. There is a day of not much for us which will be a good opportunity to settle in have a bit of a look around and sus out the hotel facilities, (gym. pool , bar etc - maybe not the bar with the athlete). The roller games is an interesting event and a lot of disciplines will have their preliminary games / competition before we arrive, with so much to fit in the timetable is emmense and there is plenty of things going on every day. The intention will be to try and find our way to other events where possible and see the best in the world play their indivdual sports. Obviously the first second and third focus is to ensure Liv is relaxed and ready to perform, but where possible we will also try and take in some other things where possible (and a good distraction) .
A 5 star hotel with a large pool and breakfast included, is always a good sign for an enjoyable holiday, so looking forward to around 12 days of hotel life (while missing not being at home of course - recently married so need to include the asterix) . there is effectively 7 or 8 venues around the area of Nanjing all showing diffierent roller sports disciplines, Roller hokcey (called rink hockey now it seems) , inline Hockey (both of which I have played - the former more than the latter) , speed skatnig, down hill, Derby, inline artistic (tricks and stuff with cones - which is quite cool) , and there is also a couple more i think that I have forgotten. Finding the way succesfully around nanjong to find our ay to these events will be the first challenge, we know the American skaters are staying at our hotel, hopefull there is some other sports at the Sheraton so they can help us find what we want to watch.
I cant question the level of effort and dedication from the snoopsta in the past 8 weeks , and we will leave next week feeling good about where things are at for her first world championships. Plenty of learning, lots of taking in everything that goes on from all countries, and coming home with a new level of drive and positivity. We have competed in europe previously so the shock in seeing some of the best in the world wont be as much of a shock, but always different when you get to skate against them at Worlds. Spending a quality couple of weeks with your favourite coach will make it all worth while I am sure.
From the upcoming weekend will try and update information on results as they come through, (even though we will still be here) , and all other interesting information about the fun of the championhsips.
