I’m away. Again. For real this time.
Had the last shower I’ll get for three weeks & was ready to go by 7.30am odd. Got the call from Phil at Port Melbourne to be greeted by the news of the first mechanical failure – his name is Neil. Well not really. Neil was the one that had a tyre blow out at bloody Campbell Town. Only an hour and a bit from his front door! We pulled into Goodyear at Taylors Lakes and he had a new tyre put on and then we were off up the Calder.
Talk about bloody frost! The further we got up the road the mistier and frostier it was. Were we going the wrong way? After a while we stopped off for a latte (roll your eyes here) and decided that we’d try to get to Renmark which is not far past Mildura.
We rolled through a few towns and took a few pics here and there and eventually got to Mildura where we filled up with diesel and got some stuff for dinner. Onward bound we decided that we probably wouldn’t make Renmark and started gathering firewood from the side of
the road and looking out for a spot to set up. The first stop turned out to be a stinker but we managed to pull a rabbit out of a hat and found ‘Murray Sunset National Park’. Wasn’t on our map but it has turned out well.
A bit of a downer is that my deep cycle battery has thrown a tantrum and isn’t charging. After a touch of surgery tonight we are hoping it will be sorted by the time we hit Renmark township tomorrow, which is around 35km away.
Tomorrow we are hoping to get to Wilpena Pound, Flinders Rangers. The blokes are trying that it is a big meteor crater. I’ll believe it when I see it.
