Neale and I came to Melbourne on Saturday the 21st, we have only come down here for 4 days and it started out spectactularly... *snigger*
For a travel agent I really need to focus on my own holidays for a change, i check, recheck and check again all of my clients documents to make sure that everything is correct, but i dont check my own thinking that they will be ok... NOPE!! the wholesaler had booked us in the month earlier!!! I thought it was hilarious... but that's probably because I got on the phone to the wholesaler and we got the last room!! We even got breakfast included... the breakfasts werent as great as what I have had before, but they were free so who's complaining!!
So anyway, we locked up our bags until check in (we got there at about 8am) and then we went to get some breakfast and to decide on what we were going to do next... so, we went to the Melbourne Zoo!! It's an ok zoo, not as big as Taronga in Sydney, and the pens seem a bit small, and some of the animals seem unhappy, but they had a decent
selection and we got some ok photos 😊
Then we came back, checked in and vegged for a little bit. Actually, we had a nap!! lol!! Then we were off for dinner. It's not easy finding a pub or a fish and chip shop in melbourne! All I wanted was some fish, and Neale just wanted a pub dinner... so, we ended up at a cafe! Then it was back to the hotel and off to bed!
Sunday was the day of meeting up with all of my trazling buddies, well, 2 of them anyway 😊 But first we went to the St Kilda markets and the trams were having issues, so it was a tram and a bus to get there and back. The markets were pretty good, nothing spectacular but i loved the artwork that was there!! and if i had more money, and wasnt flying back home to Canberra then I would have bought it!! There was a great range and it was just my style 😊
Once we made it back to the city we had about an hour to spare before we had to meet up with pawsie and disy, so it
was off to the internet cafe... nothing spectacular there, but if your ever in Melbourne check out the Cyber Cafe of Bourke Street, good computers and great prices 😊
We met Pawsie and Disy at Flinders Street Station, and Pawsie's BF Davey came too!! he's cool! I like him!! lol!! We grabbed a coffee at the Arts centre food court - pawsie was hungry (that girl can eat!!) and then I managed to convince neale to go to the markets at the centre! They were good markets!! There was heaps of stuff there, but the highlight was the truffles!!! oh boy they were good!! Disy bought a packet, then davey bought a packet... then i bought some too!! I actually need to get that reciepe out of one of mum's old books!
After this we decided to go and get a coffee - Gloria Jeans of course!! An just bummed around the shops and stuff before eveyone disapeared.
Neale was happy as we managed to get our Pub Dinner in!!
The Day of the 10 Trams
In one day we managed to get 10 trams!! But I will explain that in a minute.
On
Monday we were off to meet Neale's nerd friends... So I met someone... but I cant remember his name... go me!! We had a pub lunch, and Neale and his friend talked about their games stuff and I tried to figure out what they were on about... lol!!
After this we decided to go to the Queen Vic Markets - which dont actually run on a monday!! And we also jumped on the wrong tram!! So we jumped on the wrong tram, then got on the right one, but the markets werent open!! Good Hey!!
Ok, so before I tell you what we did that night - my favourite part of melbourne!! I'll explain the 10 trams in a day!! lol!!
1. City - St Kilda Road (to meet Neales friend - we got there early so decided to jump on another tram so....)
2. St Kilda Road - Carnagie
3. Carnagie - St Kilda Road (Had lunch with his mate)
4. St Kilda Road - City
5. City - St Kilda (wrong tram)
6. St Kilda - City (return on wrong tram)
7. City - Queen Vic Markets (they were closed)
8. Queen Vic Markets - City
9. City - Old Melbourne Gaol
10. Old Melbourne Gaol - City
Good thing we had a day pass!!
So my fave part was the Old Melbourne Gaol (Aussie spelling of Jail) We did a night tour and it was great!! Very theatrical, but I loved it. We weren't allowed to take photos of the perfomance, but we got some good photos afterwards. It was realy dark so a lot of my photos didnt really come out. We seen Ned Kelly's Armour and his Death Mask. We also found out some other really interesting stories of other criminals and what they did. We also found out about life in the Gaol. I'm glad I never had to go there!!
Today we went to the Queen Vic Markets - they were open!! lol!! We bought Leah's birthday present! It was a big market and was actually pretty decent. A little bit better than Paddy's in Sydney as even though it was a bit repetitive with the products it was atleast more varied.
When we got back we decided to go to the airport early as all i wanted to do was sit and wait for the
flight. I was over walking and just wanted to sit and relax!!
And thats the trip of Melbourne. A little vague, but I'm sick of typing now 😊
