Port Echuca
The quaint little port in Echuca (bless you)! Hello everyone!!!
Well firstly apologies in how long its taken me to get round to writing this thing. But in all fairness I haven't been up to a great deal so I thought I would just write about my time in Melbourne when I'm about to leave! And I leave in under two weeks now, which is very scary as I've been here for three months! Have really loved it here and I feel like I live here! So without further ado here's a little run down of what I've been up to since february and through march!
Fruit Picking in Echuca Last time I wrote I informed you all that Sarah and I and some other people (Ashley and Helen) were heading off to go fruit picking. Well that was a bit of a mini and extremely short lived adventure. In total I lasted two days picking pears (which was very hard work, up a ladder the whole day surrounded by flies and I kept on getting scratched by the tree- the scars are still there!) and sarah did one whole day of packing apples. The place that we went to (Echuca) was this quaint
Horse Drawn Carriage!
Sarah's mum did a good job on our scenic tour of Echuca! little town situated on the Murray River where you ride paddle steamers, ride around in horsedrawn carriages and do many other cute little things! Our time there was pretty cool, apart from the stressful work, though I did also do a day waitering which was good fun, and the experience really bonded the four of us! Most notably we shared a mutual hatred of our hostel, nicknamed Nads, which was quite possibly the skankiest most soul sucking place in the world. A touch dramatic but I kid you not!
Back to Melbourne Upon our return to Melbourne we managed to secure a job doing market research over the phone. The job was very very crappy and it was a good thing we got another job a week later as there's no way we could have stayed there! We secured a job taking inbound calls for a share registry company! We were originally taken on for three weeks yet we have found ourselves here for the rest of our time in Melbourne! The job is okay and met some nice people so all is good! So generally in Melbourne my life has involved working monday to friday
Echuca Sunset
The place was actually quite nice, regardless of the fuit picking trauma! and amusing myself around that, be it through shopping or socialising! Have managed to do a few excursions in that time, most notably the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians.
The Great Ocean Road and The Grampians Considering it's called the great ocean road it ain't really that great. Maybe a more fitting title would be the semi good ocean road? Though not quite as catchy! Anyways, Sarah and I alongside Pat and Jan (Pat we met on our Thai trek and met up with again in Melbourne, and Jan was in the hostel with Pat) rented a car and went along the great ocean road. Its essentially a rocky coastline with the highlight being 'The Twelve Apostles', which is a bunch of rocks in the sea, and there's not even twelve! Apart from that we saw other rock type things which was all quite nice! From there we headed to the Grampians (a famous national park), was a mission to get there and once we got there we found out a load of it had burned down! Though it was still really beautiful and was really interesting to see it all charred.
So apart
Us at the 12 Apostles
Clearly there aren't 12! from this excursion we've essentially just been in Melbourne, but here are a few tidbits/stories to fill you in on things.....
- AFL! Well seeing as we were in Melbourne we had to go see a footy match! The game is a bit crazy but really good fun to watch!Go the saints!
- The Commonwelath Games! If you were aware the Commonwealth games made their way to Melbourne which meant the place was rammed! Was good to be around for it though. Saw the opening and closing ceremony and the fireworks were amazing! Definitely as good as the Sydney New Years Eve ones!
- Sydney Road street party! This was a cool thing to go to! It was essentially just a massive street party with live bands everywhere and a really good atmosphere! Who knew dancing to a jazz band in the middle of the afternoon could be so much fun!
A selection of Nights out Have had a quite a few nights out, though some stand out slightly more than others...
- There was the time I went clubbing with some of Angela's (who we are staying with) friends. Was a
The Grampians
Me trying to be arty! very interesting night out but on the plus side I made friends with a couple of guys (Chris and Sean - with Chris being an Aussie boy and Sean being from london). Definitely a stroke of luck as Chris took Sarah and I under his wing somewhat during our time in Melboune!
- The sisterhood of the travelling beads night out!!! This night out Angela took Sarah and I out to some choice bars in Melbourne! Joining us were two of her friends (Sarah and Sarah!) and our friend Gill from work! Highlights of the evening included karaoke at Charltons, sitting in a dumpster and general bead loveage!
- St. Patrick's Day! As could be predicted we headed to an Irish pub! The place was so full as there are so many Irish in Australia! Night was cool as we were out with Alix and Shelley (who we know from home and met up with in Sydney) as they had just returned from New Zealand!
- Angela's birthday barbecue! Technically not a night out but needs a mention only for the fact that Sarah got impaled by a lambchop. Yes, that really did happen! She had to
'The Jaws of Death'
Talk about a dramatic name! have a day off work and everything, and went to the doctor!
- Cathy's return night out! Remember Cathy who we travelled up the east coast with? Well she returned to Melbourne and we had a big night out when she got here! Again there was karaoke loving! Which seems to happen a lot! From there it was onto a club called Honkytonks, which is apparently the best club in Oz and 11th best in the world. But in all fairness its crap! Clearly we're just not cool enough!
Neighbours night..... again This time the line up was Boyd, Steph and Stuart! Again it was another great night! The neighbours nights really are amazing I tells ya!!
Well I think that keeps you informed up until the end of March! Will fill you in on my last 6 weeks in Australia in my next entry which will be up next week! Until then take care of yourselves!!
Muchos Loveage
