Melbourne
The car from Mad Max. As you can probably tell I’m still finding my feet with how I write the blog, it doesn’t help that I’m quite bad at doing it regularly, you tend to forget the emotions that go along with things if you don’t write them down pretty soon. Also I guess I don’t know what you all want to hear about, not that that should matter its my blog, do you want to know about what I see, how I feel, how the biking is going? Probably a little bit of all of it. Have patience I’ll get it eventually...
So back in Melbourne, I decided to stay for about a week so I could do the things I needed to do, generally organise myself and say goodbye to some people in melbourne that I might not see for a while. I also wanted to do some touristy things.
So what did I get done, well very little. I managed to hook up with Carl and finally meet his girlfriend, I worked with Carl on the tents and I think we’ll be going on a motorbike trip through Europe when we both are home and can afford both bikes and another holiday so watch this space! I also saw a bit of Finchy, the Oxford graduate from London who(should that be whom?) I met in Sydney and who moved down to Melbourne a couple of months after me. I also got to hang around with Anne-Marie for another week, she might be moving to the UK soon to study so hopefully I’ll see her over there when I get back. I did do a little bit of touristy shit while back, I went to the ACMI, their version of the BFI, which was really good with interactive exhibitions and rather cooly a section with all the old videogames which you can play on. I didn’t visit the Eureka tower with the highest viewing platform in the southern hemisphere, it has a section with a glass floor so you can look straight down and I didn’t go to the crown casino which is huge apparently. I did go to anAFL game at the MCG though if only I’d taken my camera you could see some pictures! It was cool though and a real bargain at only 21 bucks which is just over a tenner, I go to far more sports events if they were a tenner. The MCG is amazing, its huge but the views of the pitch are fantastic, I’ll definately go to a cricket match there when I get back to Melbourne. I also took a trip out on the bike to Mornington on the mornington penisula which is really pretty and an amazing place to visit, while there I saw a ray about a metre across just swimming round the bay under a boat. I also went out to Dandenong and then on to Belgrave, some little hippy village out in the hills that I bet is absolutely amazing in Summer. Which reminds me Australia isn’t always hot. I didn’t sign up for weather colder than you guys are having over in England when I came over here. Even in Alice springs, in the hot red centre, the temperature is only about 24 degrees at the moment, down south where I am its between 13-19 degrees most days and bloody freezing at night, had I planned the trip well I’d already be more north by now, I probably should have done Sydney on the way round rather than first but hell it would have changed whats happened so far and that wouldn’t neccessarily be a good thing.
I also got my Speedo fixed which had been acting up since a week into the Tassy trip, this also means I have no idea what distances I did in tassy, but I’d guess its about 1200 Km. Now its fixed I’ll know exactl how far I’ve travelled round Australia, so when the trip starts I’ll post my opening Speedo reading. I forgot to tell you I had my first real Australian experience in Tassy, I was riding along when I looked to my left to see a Roo bounding along next to me, luckily it headed back into the bush afterwards and not out into the road and under my wheels, quite a cool experience though. So in true Perry style, as mentioned in my last post, As I woke up on Monday morning about to head out around Australia I hadn’t organised a damn thing, the bike still has no insurance, you get a kind of third party insurance with the rego but it doesn’t cover theft or damage to the other peoples vehicle if you hit them, no hostel booked, and no real plan as to what I was doing for the next few days, oh well!
