We arrived in Melbourne after a loooooo-ooooooong journey from Africa via Sydeny. Jet lag, coupled with 2 nights of no sleep = exhaustion. But, even on the day we arrived, we still managed to do a bit of sight seeing. We met up with Maddie, a girl I had met on erasmus in France, and she acted as our tour guide - round the city centre, Federation Square, the Botanical Gardens, and then into "China Town".

For the next fortnight we have managed a bit of touristy stuff - Queen Victoria markets, (which on a Wednesday night has loads of cooked food stalls... yum!), St Kilda (which has the beach and the esplanade) and the fairy penguins on St Kilda pier (they come out at dusk - so tiny!). It's mostly just been job hunting though, which is so tiring! Fiona's now working in an office in the fruit market, and I'm working in a frozen yoghurt shop (cutting fruit). So after a month of fruit fruit fruit in the monkey foundation, here we still are, dealing with fruit. Typical...

We have been staying in a nice hostel, which is really big, but actually quite quiet considering there are about 500 odd people here. We had initially considered looking for flats, but now we've been offered some work here to reduce the rent, so I think we might just stay here. It's only 4 people to a room, which isn't bad, and our room mates are really nice (though they are both leaving in the next few weeks, so who knows who we'll get in their place!). We've also already met up with a few people from our Africa tour who are also travelling about Australia.

We're already getting itchy feet though, and planning our first wee trip in Victoria - the Great Ocean Road, which we'll hopefully do next weekend. Can't wait!
