So where to begin…
HAPPY NEW YEAR once again everyone!
Last night was fun, it was low key but fun. We all met Audrey on the pier at 7:35pm. Luc and Ana were a few minutes late as usual, but me gathered everyone up and got in 3 cabs. We were joined by Luc (shore ex manager), his girlfriend Ana (Aqua Spa Therapist), Lotta (Desktop Publisher), Juan Carlos (JC, shore ex), Charmaine (shore ex), Maricella (shore ex), and Audrey (tour operator), also obviously Lee and myself.
We got to Audrey’s house just in time to chow down on pizza. Her friend was slaving over the oven when we got there which was very nice as we were all starving. Lee used his electronic skills and got the stereo hooked up so we could listen to some tunes. We relaxed and mingled for a few hours. The pizza didn’t even stand a chance; it was gone before it got on the plates. We probably headed down to see the penguins around 9:10pm as it took a few minutes to walk down. We were all starting to think that Audrey was smoking something
because the penguins usually swim to shore, but we kept walking to the end of the pier. It ended up being a water break that the penguins called home. They had their little chicks in the holes of the rocks. They were absolutely adorable, much better then Phillip Island, as this excursion was free and you got to get much closer to the penguins. This can be a good thing and a bad thing. There was a large sign that said ‘No Flash photography due to injuring the penguin’s eyes’. Everyone that went already knew this as we had all been to the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island, but did that stop anyone?? Nooo. So it was completely dark with the exception of lamp posts on the pier. It was hard enough on my eyes I could only imagine what the penguins were thinking. It was very frustrating as well as you can’t see for a few seconds after and your eyes have to readjust. The penguins were getting scared and weren’t going home but this didn’t seem to bother some people. Lee and I were quiet upset at how selfish people were. The pictures weren’t even turning out and
if they did it’s because they took 3 shots of the same penguin. Oh well, people will do what they want.
Around 11pm Lee and I were getting tired, I’m just getting over a cold and I think Lee’s caught it so we decided to hike it back to the ship. Maricella decided to come join us as they all had to do dispatch tomorrow morning. We said our farewells and wished everyone a Happy New Year. We were told that it was about an hour walk back to the ship. Low and behold it took us an hour and 10minutes. But it was a very nice night and just as we got back to the ship we had a chance to stop and enjoy the fireworks. From the beach we could see 3 different firework shows, one in St. Kilda (where the penguins were), one in downtown Melbourne, and one in the port of Melbourne.
Lee and I got back to the ship and crashed. Our legs were a little jelly as we haven’t done that much walking in a while. He’s going to be sore tomorrow! Teehee
Not a very exciting New Years, but it was very cool.
January 1st - 9:00pm
Today was a slow day for the shore ex team. They had to be at the office for 7:15am to do dispatch. Lee had to call Maricella, who had to call JC 3 times to get in the office. I guess JC got back at 6am after leaving Charmaine at the party in the middle of Melbourne with zero money. Luc and Ana’s taxi got lost on the way to the party so they got back early as well.
But regardless dispatch got over and done with smoothly. Lee paid Charmaine to do afternoon dispatch as she was broke. So Lee has the night off.
Lee and I headed into town to get a few things and get some money exchanged. We grabbed a coffee and headed back to the ship. We were both knackered so we relaxed and watched movies.
Lee’s new Year’s resolution is to get back to the gym so I dragged him up there today. We got showered and changed and spent about an hour on the internet to see what jobs I could find in Sydney. An hour seems like a long time but not with satellite internet. We got 2 jobs out of the deal but one of them sounds really good. We grabbed a bite to eat and continued the movie game.
Nighty night.
