I have decided to add a nice big entry into the blog about Melbourne and Oz in general. When we were in Melbourne Steve did not join me on a couple of trips that I did, so thought it would be good these two amazing excursions a mention.
As has already been posted on the blog we went to the Neighbours evening which was not only incredible, but also extremely hilarious. However, during the day I went on the official Neighbours tour where we went around Ramsey Street etc. Mr Lace did not want to go as he doesn't know anything about Neighbours and thought it would be a waste of time and money if he went. So I went with Lucy, a girl who we met at Fraser Island and who decided to join us on our travels down the east coast of Australia. The Neighbours tour was something I will never forget from the moment we got into the mini bus and met the most strangest tour drivers you could ever meet. She can be described not only as odd but also as a Neighbours geek! To see the set and Ramsey Street was a very different experience
to what we had been used to on this trip no adrenalin rushes or amazing scenery but equally as entertaining and enjoyable. Ramsey Street, which by the way is not called Ramsey Street in real life, was extremely small compared to what it looks like on TV. We went outside all the houses and were given a Ramsey Street sign so we could pose for some memorable pictures. The security guard shouted at me because I touched the post box which you were not allowed to do. I just laughed and denied it like a cheeky teenager and no more was said. Once the tour was over we met a Neighbours cast member, Janelle Timmins. She walked onto the bus and everyone had their picture taken with her and then we all left. We had nothing to say to her at all!I thoroughly enjoyed the Neighbours Tour and now eager to get to the Elephant & Wheelbarrow for the Neighbours evening.
Before we went to the Neighbours evening I went to Albert Park, the home of the Australian F1 Grand Prix. I had already been during the day but Holly, a girl I met on the Neighbours Tour wanted
to go so I took her to the circuit where we had a walk around and posed for pictures. Being a massive Formula 1 fan I really enjoyed this. My dad will definately be jealous!
It was Holly who I would spend the whole of the next day in Melbourne with as we went to the MCG for a stadium tour. Me and Steve had previously been to the MCG to watch an AFL game, but I really wanted to do the stadium tour as well. Unfortunately for Steve ill health prevented him from attending, so it was just me and Holly who got to experience the magic of the MCG. Holly is a sports fanatic so we had lots in common and had a really good laugh and a really good day. I also checked out the Rod Laver Arena, which is where the Australian open tennis is played. Being sports mad I really appreciated and enjoyed this. We ended the day by having a bite to eat before I had to head back to the hostel to meet Steve and get my stuff in preparation to leave for Sydney for our flight the next day to Kiwi.
It was sad to leave Melbourne as it was by far my favourite place in Australia. Being a sports fanatic I appreciated it even more, as Melbourne is one of the greatest sporting venues in the world. Overall, I loved Australia and did some amazing things and met some awesome people. Melbourne was my favourite place and the Whitsunday Islands and Fraser Island were my favourite trips. However, I loved Australia Zoo also which was an emotional trip after seeing all the Steve Irwin tributes. The Guy is a legend, not just because of his personality, but also because what he has done for Wildlife conservation. The White Water Rafting in Cairns was amazing and was the most extreme trip we did in Australia, as all the others we to be saved until New Zealand. Sydney was ok but a bit of a disappointment as there was not really a great deal to do there. Luckily for us me and Steve met some good people who we were able to have some good drunken nights out with, especially Minesh. I will remember Oz for all the amazing trips and all the amazing people that I met and hope to
keep in contact with. Lucy, Holly, Sungoo Park, Minesh, the Whitsunday boys and the rest of the Fraser Island crew are absolute legends as well as the quality tour guides that we encountered, especially Fisherman, Paul, Shane, Ben and Chris. I had a great time in Oz and still had New Zealand and Tokyo to look forward to. This marked the half way point of the adventure and surely it couldn't get any better....but it did!
