Old City
Old buildings in Melbourne As I don’t know much about Melbourne, I trusted the guide (a.k.a our friends) to inform the “must see” places. We arranged the itinerary and prepare ourselves for the trip.
On Saturday we decided to see Saint Kilda beach but previously we joined lunch at our friend’s house. Her name is Sherly and she is an Indonesian as well. She served us yummy spicy and hot fried chicken that lighted up our afternoon mood 😉) Yummm...
Finished our lunch and chit chat, we continue the trip to St.Kilda beach where we planed to watch sunset. The beach is clean and there were so many Seagull birds around the beach. The sunset was truly beautiful and we enjoyed the scene by having hot chocolate at restaurant next to the beach.
On Sunday, we decided to start the day by watching sunrise at Great Ocean Road. Great Ocean Road is one of the ways heading to Adelaide. We start the trip early in the morning and it took us 3 hours to reach the look out point by car. During the trip, we saw very beautiful scenery of South Australia, as the road is located on the hills next to the
beach. We also passed so many farms which have groups of cows, sheeps, etc. Green hills, blue sea, it was quite picturesque. Finally, we arrived at 12 Apostles look out point. It was a long and sleepy road trip but it was worth it. 12 Apostles are actually collection of limestone stacks located at Port Campbell National Park. It made by sea abrasion. Currently, only 9 of them left. The scenery was awesome, it make many tourists came from other cities to enjoy the view.
On the afternoon, we went to the city and enjoy a cup of Max Brenner chocolate. I drank Suckao, melted chocolate blocks served with hot milk. Max Brenner Cafe is actually a chain (or franchise) café and can be easily to find in each mall at Melbourne. The one we tried located at Queen Victoria mall.
Enough sightseeing at the moment, we decided to hunt for souvenirs on the next day. Our friend Rizka suggested us to go to Queen Victoria Market as most of the item’s price is cheaper and bargain-able. We went there by tram and got excited as we plan to buy souvenirs for our friends back home. At the market,
Angga & Sherly
Lunch at Sherly's house we found various kinds of souvenirs, from ashtrays to boomerangs, from Belly Dancing outfit to towels. Each of them has different types of design and quality also with various prices. Finished hunting, we continued the trip and ate churos in Southbank. Churo is a cinnamon tasted snack served with melted chocolate dip. Yummy… We enjoyed the snack while watching beautiful scenery of Southbank, office area next to Yarra River with many buildings reflected itself on the river. We reached Southbank area by stopping at Flinders Train Station and walk for about 100 meters. We continued walking through National Gallery of Victoria which closed on that day (Oh No!), then to Royal Botanic Garden and to Shrine of Remembrance. Shrine of Remembrance is actually a monument related with Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC), national army which joined the World War II. As the building located strategically with a very great view of Melbourne city, we went to the top floor and enjoyed the sunset scenery of the city.
In the night, we went to a recommended Italian Restaurant called Giorgios. Located on Corner High Street & Glenferrie Road - Armadale, the restaurant serves a highly recommended menu: Sticky Date
Seagul Birds
Catch the sunset Pudding, Date (Kurma) Puding served with delicious syrup and ice cream. The pudding looks usual, but it gave undescribe-able taste 😉) Deliciously yummy!
The next day, I couldn’t help myself not to find out what’s inside National Gallery of Victoria. As I am a huge fan of paintings and ancient artifacts (quite weird, huh!), we decided to go to the Gallery. We went there by train and stop at Flinders Station. There is no entrance fee while entering the gallery, and we found so many ancient artifacts of Oceania, Egypt, Maya, Greek, Roman, and many other interesting ancient regions. There were also many students from art schools who join class inside the gallery discussing paintings and photography which actually light up my learning mood (I wish I were one of them) 😉) I watched the gallery’s item carefully and admired how the ancient world made such technology. It was amazing.
Had lunch at Chinatown, we went home and sadly realized that that day was actually our last day in Melbourne. We had such a great time in Melbourne, but me and my traveling partner: Angga had to prepare for the next exciting and thrilling experience in Sydney.
Me
and Angga are very thankful to our friends who were very nice and informed us where to go. Plus being our guide and accompanied us on the trip. Especially to Rizka and Hadi for being great buddies, “must try” restaurants advisor, shopping consultant, and photographer as well 😉) Well, hopefully we’ll meet interesting new buddies in Sydney as well. Here we come Sydney!
