Harold's House
Me in front with the legendary Ramsay Street sign G'day!
I hope you are all well.
I am currently in the city of Melbourne! I arrived here on Wednesday, and was greeted by my friend Max once I had arrived by the airport shuttle bus. Max then took me to his flat which he shares with his friend Callum and 3 others. It's pretty cool because his flat is located right in the city centre.
It's great to get out of hostels for a while and obviously to save on money is a bonus.
On Thursday night I met up with Lucy and Pascale (from Sydney) as they had come down to Melbourne on the 1st Jan. We watched a movie and chilled out.
Then on Friday we went on the Neighbours Tour!! Now, some of you might see this as sad, however I was brought up watching Neighbours since I was really young, so it was something I had to do. Neighbours is filmed in Melbourne, hence the tour being here. We got on the Neighbours tour bus in the city centre and it took us firstly to 'Erinsborough High School'.
The school is actually a real school. It is a learning to
Melbourne Mates
Me and Max on his flat balcony speak English school, which is only open 3 days a week (so that's why they chose it, so they can film on the other 4 days a week.) The school is located about 5 mins drive away from the actual street.
Yes, Ramsay Street is an actual street. It has residents just like any other street. However, the residents of the houses get paid $30,000 a year to allow filming and to compensate for the 500 visitors to the street everyday!!! Every Tuesday, the residents have to move their cars out of the street and pull down their blinds, to allow filming. It was really surreal going to the street, and it was alot smaller than I had imagined. Standing in the street where Bouncer the dog had died, where many characters had arrived or left the soap, where many Neighbours have waved to each other across the street after collecting their newspapers and more recently where Todie had been shot (Oh, I dont think that has been showed in England yet!!! Haha!), was a great experience. I have included quite a few pics for you... alot of them are cheesy with the sign... but oh well.
Oh....
and after going to the street, we had the chance to meet a previous star of the show. None other than Darcy Tyler! (The dirty doctor! Who stole from Karl and Susan - his Uncle and Aunt.... who was pushed down the stairs by Izzy and placed in a coma.... who tried to steal Dee off of Todie? Remember?) His name is Mark Rafferty in real life... and we got a chance to ask him some questions and to grap a picture with him.
You know where they got the town name 'Erinsborough' from? Well it's an anogram of 'Neighbours'.
On the 15th January... me and the some of my friends from Sydney (Clare, Sam, Shaz, Hayley, Crofty and Holly) are going to the Neighbours Quiz Night. Which is a night where you get to meet 3 Neighbours stars and just a a good laugh. I will be sure to get some pics. Hope Harold will be there...!!
So Neighbours is one Australia 'must-do' ticked off my list... So I thought I would tick another one off on the Sunday...!!
Guess what legend I went to see?
DAME EDNA Everage!!!
And it was amazing!!
The Timmons House
Legendary families like the Daniels', the Martin's and the Scully's have lived here... Sooo funny. I went with Lucy and Pascale. We were in the Circle, so we had a good view. I just spent most of the time laughing my head off...it was that funny! There was one moment where she got a young guy and an elderly woman on stage... and re-married them (they didn't even know each other) then she called the guy's mother (we could hear the whole conversation) and told her what had happened and introduced her to her new daughter-in-law... haha, all a joke of course.
Lucy and Pascale both left on Monday, however the girls from Syndey arrived on Tuesday. We went to the Crown complex together (this huge casino, shops, restaurants, cinema, bowling etc... ) and went to St Kilda on Wednesday.
Also, Me, Callum and Max went to a nightclub called Famous on Saturday night. Was an ok night, but the music was just Headcandy stuff... not my kind of music. But the club was huge!
I went to the Melbourne Museum yesterday. Was really interesting. Had the history of Australia, film and music, animals, insects, dinosaurs... all the usual.. It also had an authentic old set from Neighbours (I sound
The Timmons House
Legendary families like the Daniels', the Martin's and the Scully's have lived here... like a die-hard fan of the soap!!) The old Scully family kitchen... which was also the Martins and Daniels kitchen too. There were preserved graffiti on the back of the set... and one signed name was Kylie Minogue!!
So I have nearly been here a week, and am still in my friends flat. I will hopefully be leaving Melbourne this time next week. How or where... I do not know yet. The reason I want to leave, is that it's a city, and want to see some more culture.
