FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10
I did wake up several times during the night. However at 9:00am, we got a wake-up call over the intercom from the Captain. He said "Good morning. I have some very important news for you. During the night our propulsion system failed. And currently we are out at sea a drift. We are in no danger. I have called the authorities and they are sending us a tug boat to tug us back to Melbourne. Again, we are in no danger, but we are not moving. You will all be getting a complete refund for this cruise." Glenn then said, "Judy, I called it! I knew we wouldn't make it to New Zealand".
Glenn and I went to breakfast down on Deck 8. The atrium is NOTHING like the last cruise where there was organize protest and chatting. This was very calm. A good thing. I then walked down to La Cucina to join the stitches and knitters group. I sat next to Laura. Obviously, the conversation turned to the recent announcement about the cruise - no itinerary.
At 11:30am, Laura and I joined about 20 others as we went on a "Cabin Crawl". About 5 others offered to show us their staterooms. We saw inside staterooms, balcony suites, 2 room suites and even the Villa, which is 45,000 square feet. Fabulous. This was all decked out, private bathrooms and tv in them, plus own butler and maids.
Glenn and I then went to the Versailles for lunch. Sitting at the back. Not moving. Beautiful day. But not moving at all. We returned to our cabin 10571 and took a 2 hour nap. This time we were wanting to know if the tug boat had arrived - nope, not yet. We did sit out on Deck 7 and watch the water and sun slowly dip down. We did watch a couple gamble their money. They got luck and hit the number 12 twice. Roulette was the game. Glenn and I walk through the casino and stop to watch couples or individuals play. Some just throw down 100.00 and loose and walk away.
We went to the 7:30pm show where there were 3 male singers. Very good. They sang songs from Frank Sinatra, il Divo and others. Very good. Right after the show, we walked outside and saw the tug boat. We waved. We talked to one couple that live
in Melbourne. They are going to stay on the boat, and if not, will fly to Auckland to meet with her brother. We also talked to David and Rick and see what they are going to do. They are thinking of jumping off the ship, renting a car and going to see the great Coastal Hiway.
We then needed to get supper, by this time it was 9:30pm. Aqua Restaurant. We sat next two couples. Clyde and ? from Texas, they live in Howell, near Sherman. And Jane and ? from Wichita, Kansas that use to work and serve as missionaries in Russia back in the 90's. We gave them our card, and also told them about the worship service on Sunday morning. Hopefully they'll attend
