Could the Adams be caravanning soon?!
This was taken inside the $14'990 van that everyone liked .... but we didn't buy! Day 15 - The girls are always the first ones up! We were going to take them to school today but it has been declared another holiday day so nobody is rushing to do anything! We finish off the clear up, get the girls some breakfast and then relax before the day really gets going.
We’re all heading off to look at some caravans today! Yes, all of us - Anna and Grant are toying with the idea of getting a caravan! We’ve heard about a closing down sale near Dandenong so we head off over there. We’ve got Bill’s Ute just in case we find one that we can haul back! It doesn’t take too long to get across there but we did laugh as there are not many ‘stylish’ caravans so we think Anna might be disappointed! It’s a bit novel as none of the vans display prices so you have to jot down the number of the van you’re interested in, tell the guy on reception and then he tells you the price. We wander round making a note of the ones which might suit the bill but to be honest there just aren’t that many. We
eventually latch on to one which is obviously very, very old but has been more recently refurbished and is within our price range. It does feel quite brown though, dark brown, and a bit yukky so thank the owners and move on.
Bayswater isn’t far away so we decide to go there where there are a number of caravan retailers and we can sneak a ‘Hungry Jacks’ en-route! The girls have fun in the play area and then it’s back to the search! There are plenty of caravans here which take Anna and Grants fancy too and we all end up sitting in one which we visited the first week. It’s $14’990 so I feel it’s out of our price range but the layout makes the van feel very spacious. It has single beds in an L shape and it does have the cooker, microwave, hob, sink and awning that we want. I’m not convinced and Darryl is a bit uncertain so we move on.
The girls are a bit over the caravan search by now, despite finding one with a ‘Henry’ sized kennel in it, so the Adams head off home. We continue and re-visit a company
where we spied a couple of possibilities last week. They’ve been sold but another van has just come in and we’re rather taken by it. The awning is down at the front so it’s difficult to have a look but the sales lady, Margaret, comes along and tries the door … which hits the awning and puts a teeny, tiny hole in it! We help her sort it out and the van inside suits our needs - it has the cooker, hob, microwave, double bed, lounge area, wardrobes, storage spaces and it’s in the budget. It’s a bit older than we’d hoped to get but we do both like it. We’ve been told about a place called Springfield Caravans so we feel we should head off over there first just to check that we’re not missing something brilliant! It’s about a thirty minute drive and it’s a wasted journey. There’s nothing there as they’re either very expensive or very daggy but a nice lady stops us in the hope that we’ll buy her van! She’s looking for more money than we’re prepared to pay but it was nice of her to stop and chat! We head back to Bayswater and find another dealer which we visited last week but there’s nothing there either. So guess what …. we went back and bought the caravan Margaret took us round. We pick it up later in the week once all the roadworthy checks have been done and they’ve given it a service in the workshop … and repaired the teeny tiny hole in the awning of course!!!
You would think we’d be springing back home with all the excitement but we’re just waiting until we’ve picked up our little 4WD and then the caravan … then I think we’ll go nuts!!
We’ve written a list of all the things we need to kit it out with so hopefully we’ll be able to pick that up tomorrow when we’ve got our car. Bedding, towels, cutlery, saucepans, torches, flasks, cups, cleaning stuff etc etc!
A good long walk tonight settles us in for the evening although we did have a scare part way round with Henry. He has this habit, which is totally indulged, to wind up the other dogs in the neighbourhood that are stuck behind fences etc that we pass on the walk! The same walk, the same routine, Henry knows exactly where these dogs live and excitedly runs to reach the gates with Anna trying to keep up behind. Well tonight he must have got a bit too close and the dog on the other side managed to ‘get him’! He wasn’t hurt, we checked thoroughly, but he did cry a lot so Anna took him home as he seemed a bit freaked out! Whoops! After that it was just possums up the trees and on the pylons, so no major drama! I (Sarah) sat with Charlotte while she red a chapter from Tinkerbell & Friends, Dar reads the owners manual for the Terrano and leftovers are served for dinner!
Footy is on … Grant’s convinced we’ll need a TV in the van but we're not so sure!!
Night night!
